Q: Nose Mask or Wind Deflector? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Which do you prefer....and why?

Thanks,

I just don't have the time nor the inclination to take the bra off everytime or every second time I wash my vehicle. Besides, IMHO, a properly fitted wind deflector looks sexier :D

Here in Colorado, the "clear bra" is a big deal on the front end of cars. It's basically a big clear sticker that is applied to the crucial parts of the front end to keep rocks and stuff from chipping your paint.

I'm thinking about putting one on my Sagebrush EX PILOT, because you can't see them and everyone I've talked with seems to like them.

I have major questions - do they eventually peel and if so, how long and how easy is it to remove and re-apply a new one????

Well, I can tell you all one thing, the half nose mask is not much to get excited about.

When I ordered my Pilot, I added the 1/2 Nose Mask as an option. All the options were on backorder, so I had to wait for them. After reading all the posts about the FormFit deflector, I decided to get that instead and called my dealer to cancel the order for the 1/2 Nose Mask. Instead, I asked them to substitute the All Weather Floor Mats, which are roughly the same price.

So, today they call to tell me my options have arrived. I take the truck in, take the dealer shuttle back home, and return 5 hours later to pickup my Pilot.

Of course, don't you know they put the 1/2 Nose Mask on it... No floor mats though, now they are on backorder.

So I am looking at this thing, and 2 things strike me right away.

First, the part that protects the hood has this large triangular lump in the middle that probably deflects wind or something like that. Unfortunately, it's quite noticeable when you are driving and is therefore somewhat distracting. It doesn't move or anything, it's just in your peripheral vision all the time.

Second, and probably more annoying, is that the top and bottom parts of the mask don't line up on the sides of the vehicle. The whole kit is actually a standard black hood protector, and then a wrap-around type of cover the surrounds the headlights and grille. The two parts both cover the top/front of the vehicle for about 6-8 inches, but the sides of the lower part don't line up with the top of the hood protector. They are off by about 2 inches, which doesn't look too good overall.

So, I can defintely recommend against the 1/2 nose mask, based on the look alone. The "wind thing" in the middle just makes it worse.

I had them take it off, which annoyed the mechanic since he spent quite a while putting it one. Don't know why it took so long, it seems pretty simple to me.

My mats should be in shortly...

Anyway, just thought you might like to know.

Later...

The only time I have to take the bra off is off someone!

The half nose mask is actually just the part that covers the edge of the hood - full nose mask is both hood and front cover. Not certain what was wrong with the one you saw - I have full nose mask and it fits very well. Also, the piece sticking up is common on many nose masks - it's designed to cause down force on the lip of the mask and prevent it from flapping in the breeze...works quite well.

Actually, the 1/2 Nose Mask kit for the Pilot is a 2 piece kit that covers everything on the front above the bumper (at least in Canada it is). The Full Nose Mask covers the entire front end, including the bumper itself.

In my case, the side portions don't line up with the hood portion, which appears to be defective. I was playing with it today a bit, and it just doesn't line up properly with the hood shape, etc. I will take it back to the dealer and have them give me another one.

Could just be defective...
