| How do the moderators/admins take care of post "whoring" on the board. I notice on slow threads people are just posting without any relevance to the thread. It's understandable on OT threads, but it's disappointing I get a email notification and find it's some clown that posts "LOL" or something. |

I think those were the spammers who were posting links to viruses(?), and our mods/admins have probably banned them. |

We had a spate of spam that the mods edited, leaving only LOL or a smiley in some cases.
Do you have email notification turned on by default? If so, you should try turning it off, and subscribing to the threads you're really interested in. That way you'd get notified of new posts in threads you've subscribed to, and not every thread you've posted in. |

Sorry, I could not help but do that...
I am not sure how to stay on topic when the topic is post whoring, but I will try...
I am personally against post whoring, I find it to be most often done by Republican apologists except when it is being done by Libertarian apologists, but it is most annoying when it is done by Democratic apologists...
Was that nonsensical enough? |

This is exactly the case. Sometimes we delete them completely, but usually just edit the offending links.
We have been banning/blocking them as quickly as we can. We have also changed the registration process in an effort to cut down on the porn spam.

Thanks for the explanation...interesting that you guys get alot of spam traffic. On both vBulletin boards that I'm involved in (one that's a local car board, the other a worldwide car board), we're able to filter most of the spammers out thru registration, so it's very rare that any make it through. |

I manage a vbulletin based forum, and have had recurring issues with spammers with registration scripts.
It seems to take constant changes to stay ahead of the flood. |
