The Patriots...Oh, wait - they're not in it.....

After the superbowl in early 86 when the Bears handed it to the old-uniform patriots, I'm rootin' for the Colts this time around!!! They played a class game with the Pats yesterday - would like to see them win!

DA' BEARS!

What? No "Don't Care" choice?
robrecht
Being from Illinois, I'd love for the DA BEARS to win, but it's hard to bet against Manning.

But I'd also love for the Colts to win since my older brother and I used to be HUGE Johnny Unitas fans. Might take away some of the sting from '69.

So at work I was actually trying to take bets on both sides of the spread until someone said that was illegal outside of Las Vegas.
jdeanski
Da Colts are the team of choice for the Las Vegas types and that Manning boy may be overdue for a clutch game but.........he had his clutch game against the Patriots. He still can't win the big one.........he never won the Heisman and he never could beat the Gators. Da Bears have a former Gator quarterback in the party boy Rex and Alex Brown has planted more Tennessee quarterbacks in the ground than Johnny Appleseed has planted trees. Da Colts choke, da Bears win.....nuff said.
robrecht
DA GATORS? ... I don't think so, jdeanski.

Not everything revolves around da gators. How's your boy George doing BTW? :7:
rocky
Vinatieri was the only one who got the Colts into the Championship game v the Patriots.

But the team played very well to win v the pats.

I'm hoping for a game that will keep our interested beyond the first half. That would be good for football.

Yeah, I guess we can't really hope for another wardrobe malfunction at half-time.

:3: it is not a story between tennessee vs florida this time. It is between the Colts vs Da Bears. The Rex having played from florida is just incidental, it is the D from Da Bears that counts not the QB. Besides, Rex grew up from Indy, parents and family are from indy-end of story.

I picked Indy, only because I need the points for my Fantasy Football playoff team. :D

The announcer just finished saying that the Colts have had trouble on kick-offs all season, when DA BEARS ran back the opening kick-off for their first touchdown. Now it's 14-6, DA BEARS!

Just thought I'd provide this update for all those arguing about global warming.

What a crap game........Payton should be ashamed to wear his ring.
rocky
It certainly lacked the excitment of previous years.

Pros should be able to handle wet rainy conditions. College games are looking better than the NFL these days. More football and less time

TV coverage from CBS SUCKED big time. Whats with all the cameras getting covered in rain????? Don't them know that it rains in Florida?

Fox does a far better job on NFL coverage.

it sure did. after the first quarter i thought it was actually going to be an interesting one, but that excitement was short-lived. it didn't even feel like i was watching the super bowl! prince was alright, but not as good as i was expecting. and what was up with that '12 men on the field' challenge???
krygny
Actually not bad, as Super Bowls go. Out of 41 Super Bowls (I've seen every one since 1969), maybe there were 10 that were truly good or great games. Half the time, I'm switching channels to see what else is on by the middle of the 3rd quarter.

At least it poured rain on the pompous ba$tards, few of whom actually deserved their tickets. I know someone who's brother has Bears season tickets. He won a lottery and got to sit behind the goal post! Can't the NFL do a better job of COMPLETELY alienating their real fans?
Bill Balmer
BLAH! :flush:

The 1st quarter was good, and Prince rocked.

Of course, as a Bears fan I'm disappointed, but I have to say this - Grossman is going to take a lot of heat, as usual, but he was no more to blame than anyone else, less so than some.

Both the offensive and defensive schemes sucked. Rivera is great, but he should be ashamed of the way they gave away the short pass all night - especially on 3rd and 4 - over and over and over. Manning's a great QB, but you can't be so paranoid about him beating you deep that you give him everything underneath all game and let him keep moving the sticks.:3: With the amount of time Indy's offense was on the field, we're lucky they didn't score 80.

Worse than that, and the reason that Grossman will take so much heat, was Ron Turner's horrendous play-calling. He needs to learn some patience. Until the end, the Bears were in the game, based on the score. I don't care what they did the last couple of games, Indy's run defense sucks. Jones showed he could run on them, but Turner would call one run, then passes on 2nd and 3rd downs. The Bears could have won that game if they had stuck to the run and not put Grossman in a position where he HAD to pass and everyone knew it. That's why he was so easily picked off.

No question the Colts were the better team yesterday, but I still believe that the Bears have more talent. The game was lost by the coaches. Most Chicagoans are calling for Rex's lynching today, but I honestly hope he comes back next year with a better offensive coordinator and proves them wrong.

I agree with most of what you say...

I think Ron Turner was in too much of a comfort zone using 2 RBs... lose of Benson affected the game plan...

How could Rex keep fumbling perfect snaps.... and whats with the lob passes...
5Gs
I was talking with friends before the game, and I thought if the bears, seeing how they're an opportunistic defense, could get 3+ turnovers, they're gonna win. I didn't think rex grossman was gonna screw it up so bad! I remember at least 2 fumbled snaps (that was right in his hands!) and countless bad throws. just watching him play vs manning play, there's a huge difference. I don't know how much coaching can be done to make him a better passer...
Bill Balmer
Obviously Grossman didn't play well. There's no excuse for the mishandled snaps or the lobs. Still, when the play-calling goes run, pass, pass, punt... run, pass, pass, punt...every time - AND you motion the running back out in the flat when you're going to pass so there's no misdirection and everyone knows it, well - it gets pretty easy for a defense to look good against you and limit your success. Stephen Hawking could've jumped some of those routes.

I'll also put some of it on the receivers. Moose played a good game, but watching the Colts play it was obvious that their receivers do a better job of getting open when the pattern breaks down and the QB is under pressure. The Bears receivers tend to run their routes and expect the ball to come to them - if Grossman doesn't deliver it when and where they practiced it, it's not going to happen.

Jones had success running the ball early. If they had kept at it instead of going for the big play, the Bears offense would've stayed on the field longer (fewer punts and fewer turnovers) and the Colts wouldn't have had so many opportunities. If Turner allowed the loss of Benson to affect his play calling to that extent, he made a huge mistake. Jones had plenty of gas in his tank.
robottik
I'd like to officially retract my Bears vote... ;)
5Gs
maybe, just maybe, grossman will prove the critics wrong next year. as bad as he was, I thought the commercials were even worse. nothing really stood out. bring back the cat herders!

Comparing Grossman to Manning is unfair. Grossman is inexperienced and doesn't have the receivers that Manning enjoys... not to mention that Manning is one of the best QB in the NFL right now.

The Bears' defense could not stop the Colts' offense. That and the play calling resulted in their loss.

OK. You guys are killing me. Someone has been voting for the Colts AFTER the game!!

Can the moderators figure that out and shame the perp for fun!?!?

That doesn't make sense, because only people from Chicago do that sort of thing. You know, like when voters cast ballots for President even after they're dead.

No need... I'll admit it. I actually didn't see this thread until after the game, but I thought the Colts were going to win ahead of time.

I did think it was funny that the poll was still open, so I figured I'd vote. :2:

Besides, it's not like the people who voted Colts are actually going to win anything.

If you're good at spacial(sp?) analysis, you could win a pad from Wilson. I'm 0 for 2.

I think "spatial" is the spelling you're looking for... and unfortunately, someone with a '06 has already won.
