Just got back from Tahoe. On the way home the driver side wiper arm stopped working. I think there may have been a build up of snow/ice that prevented the arm from moving.
The passenger side works fine and I can see the driver's side turning, but the arm does not move. I read in an older post that the screw attaching the arm to the spindle could become loose. Can anyone post a diagram of how the arm is attached to the spindle? Also, what warranty applies to the wipers? Hopefully, the interlocking teeth weren't stripped. thanks

| Since the motors working, a mechanical connection to the drivers side wiper is bad. |

| Can anyone post a diagram from the service manual which shows the driver's side wiper arm linkage? I would like to know how to access the screw/bolt that may be loose. Thanks |

| Check here for the diagram of various parts of the windshield wiper system. |

Thanks!!
Looks like I can just pry(?) off the rubber cover (#23) to expose the hex head bolt (19). |

Yup, that's how it works on my Taco too. |

| Prying off the cap and tightening the hex bolt should work. I had the same problem leaving South Tahoe in a heavy, wet storm last year and was able to fix mine on the side of the road using Leatherman pliers. How did you get home without driver's side wiper? |

| I had the same problem several months ago..I got a new rubber cap witht the threading from the Honda dealer. (wasn't expensive) and repaired it myself. One trick I learned was that the wiper arm must be 90 degrees when you tighten the cap on to the threads. |

| Thanks for all the replies. The hex nut fits into the pre-shaped rubber cap. The nut was loose enough that I could remove it with my hand. After positioning the arm, I re-tightened the nut. However, my wife just called and said that the wiper doesn't work again. I guess I'll crank on the nut a little more. There is no locking washer. You do have to lift the arm 90 degrees to get it to seat properly over the threaded spindle. I will say that the size of the "teeth" on the spindle is very small, and it is easy to see how they could be stripped by any extra resistance applied to the wiper arm (i.e., snow). I can't imagine what it would cost to have to replace the spindle portion. |
