rear temp control? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I've only had my 07 EX-L for about a week and this am while driving with my kids in the back seat I decided to give them control of the temperature so I depressed the rear conrtol button on the front dash thus giving them control. I turned the rear control to max warm and it continued to blow cold air. By reading the manual they should be able to adjust the temp up or down independent of the front control as long as the rear control button is depressed on the front dash conrtols. Anybody with any insight into this would be greatly appreciated!

Assuming the operation has not changed sine 05, the rear heater only puts warm air out at the bottom. If the unit is calling for cooling (auto) then it will blow cool air out the top. The unit only allows you to be 3 degrees either side of the main setting.

I think it's a different procedure for heat vs. AC. To give AC conrol to the back seat, you press the Rear AC / Manual button. To give heat control, press the Mode button until the heat comes out the dashboard vents (and the upper vents in the rear console). If the system is in full auto, I don't think the rear control has any affect on the lower vents in the back console (but I've never sat back there, so I'm not sure).

I've tried using the rear temp controller in auto, full auto, and manual and the temp does not vary through the rear, upper, vents. The temp of the air coming out the lower vents doesnt vary either. The only noticeable difference I saw was when in fully auto at full cool and when I adjusted the rear control to warmest setting the flow of air decreased out the rear vents, however it was still cold air. Either I'm missing something here as far as operation or there is something wrong. Guess I will call the Honda service center tommorrow.

After talking to the dealership I think I've got it figured out. As a previous poster said, you can adjust the rear temp up or down but only a few degrees different than the front setting. I also noticed that you have to have the temp up front set on a numerical value, not full cool or hot.

Update.........Actually I think the climate control system is smarter than I thought. While driving home from work today I was piddling around with the rear control and observed the following. 1. With the front temp set on 58 degrees, a/c off, and the rear control set to warmest setting all I got out of the rear vents was the same air as coming out the front vents, no warming. 2. When I increased the front temp to 78 degrees with the back continuing on warmest setting then the temp of the air coming out the rear vents got very warm. i.e warmer than the front. What I am gathering from this observation is that the climate control system will not warm the back if overall the front is calling for it to be colder than the ambient cabin temp is. I would expect the same to be true if the temp were reverse. The system is definently not as simple as I first thought!
