My 1 month old 07 EXL has a very faint tapping or popping sound coming from the front end somewhere behind the dash area whenever I accelerate sharply from low speeds or if I go over pronounced dips in the pavement. At first I thought it might be a cable or something loose behind the dash but now that I've tried to pinpoint it I think it is coming from the front end somewhere. Its not very loud at all, in fact if I have the stereo on at a low volume I cant hear it. I hesitate to take it in to the dealer for fear they may create other problems by fiddling around behind the dash. Has anyone else experienced this or have any thoughts as to what or where the problem could be?

| Try doing a search. I think I remember reading something about people noticing a similar sound coming from under the dash and behind the glove comparment. I've noticed a sound coming from there over rough roads but haven't gotten around to trying to pinpoint the culprit. Mine sounds almost like a bundle of wires is bouncing up and down on the backside of my glove box. |

I did a search and found several threads about noises behind dash. The one most similar to mine is this one....

In this instance it turned out to be a strut issue. Its funny though when I drive with the window down I cant hear it. You would think I should be able to hear it with the window down. Anyhow I will take it in next week and mention to them the TSB regarding strut noise. I do know this, if the noise is coming from the dash then I will live with it because if they tear into the dash it will never be right again!

Well its a warm day here in Carolina, about 80. I was out this am and went into a store for about an hour and a half with the pilot closed up. When I got into the car it was very warm to hot in the car so I decided to drive in it this way with the windows rolled up, no a/c. I drove for nearly 10 miles and only heard the noise once! So whatever the problem is it appears to be heat related, hopefully not in the dash but I'm suspecting it is. Maybee I'll let the problem ride for the summer and then by next fall there will be other rattles occuring to take my mind off of the original noise.

Well I got my Pilot back from the shop today and I am happy to report that the problem is gone. I will quote what the service tech did. "Loosened left side dash mounting bolts and retorqued. Test drove and found no other problems." All this was done without tearing apart the dash.:) I felt like I took delivery on the Pilot again when I drove it off the dealership lot not hearing the infamous popping noise.
