| I have a month old 2007 Pilot. My husband is going crazy with the automatic seat belt tensioner on the front seats. Is there a way to adjust the tensioner to NOT adjust so well. He feels like he is being cut in half? Thanks, Pat |

When does it do it? Upon hard braking or all the time?
If it isn't working properly the dealer will jump through hoops to get it fixed ASAP for you since it is federally mandated that all seat belt repairs are free--in or out of warranty. |

| The automatic pretensioners only activate during a collision (i.e., aggressively rewinding the belt and pulling the passenger into position). Is it the belt locks that are giving the problem? |

| In either front seat, after buckling up, the longer we sit the tighter the seat belt gets. I don't notice it as much because I am usually driving and moving around and reaching, but my husband sits pretty still, and he really notices it. I thought I saw in the owner's manual that the automatic tensioner would continually adjust tighter as it deems is needed, but can't find it now. No hard braking, or collison. Pat |

While you are buckeled in and being "constricted" by the belt, can you pull on the belt at your shoulder and make it extend?
If the answer is "no" and the belt just seems to be ratching tighter each time you move, then it might be malfunctioning.
The shoulder belt should extend and retract as you lean forward in the seat and lean back - that is to say, you should be able to move around freely the the belt snug but not restricting your movements. However, if you pull the belt all the way out until it is fully extended, you will hear/feel a click and then as the belt retracts back in, it will be ratcheting and locking in place. This is a normal function and is commonly used for belting in children or locking in a child's booster/car seat. All 7 shoulder belts have this feature.
You shouldn't be in the "ratcheting/latching" mode unless you fully extend the seat belt. If it is occuring during normal use, go have it checked out. Just make sure it isn't the way you belt in before wasting the trip. |

| This is the annoyed husband speaking. The seat belts are NOT locking -- I tried that to make sure I understood what you meant. What is going on is the tensioning spring simply pulls all the time. If I breath, it takes that as an opportunity to tighten more. It's like an anaconda, constricting tighter and tighter. If I sit there for a minute or two, it gets tight enough to put wrinkles into my shirt. If I pull the strap out a little to loosen it some, it slowly tightens up again. I find it hard to believe that Honda would design a safety device like this. Any idea if this is the first year Honda has used the automatic tensioning? We also have a new 2007 CRV, also a month old. It's doing the same thing as the 2007 Pilot. The CRV also has automatic belt tensioning. Admittedly I do not care for seat belts. However I think this is more than just my sensitivity because my wife agrees that its tightening up uncomfortably. |

If you can pull the belt away from you slowly then it is likely working correctly. There should always be pressure (tension) on the belt but it should be such that it does not constrain you; e.g. you should always be able to lean forward, etc. without it locking.
The PRE-tensioning system activates in a crash just before the air bags deploy to pull you into position for air bag deployment. There is actually an explosive charge in the seat belt system that fires and tightens the belts in a fraction of a second. If that goes off you would really know it :)
I say go to the dealer and sit in another Pilot and see if there is a difference.
EDIT: If you are thinking of the seat belts that you could pull out a bit and have them 'stick' in that position where there is some sag between the belt and you then that is not going to happen on any new car I know of. There will always be pressure to keep the belt snug agnist you.
