I'm planning to buy a used Pilot, probably a 2004 model, and I'd really appreciate some information on what are the most common problem areas in this car.

Not sure if there are any issues, but about 6-8 months ago, I was in your exact situation. What I found was that the used Pilots held their value extremely well which eventually pushed me into a new one instead. Good luck! |

Not sure there are any.
As with any car check to see if the service history is available, and all the fluids are the right color. The only thing that got people worried in the 03/04 timeframe was the transmission recall that resulted in additional oil jets being installed to keep the transmission happy. Complaints about the transmissions since then have been very few and far between. |

| If you can swing a 2005, it has some nice updates over the 2004 - VSA on the EX-L, TPMS, throttle by wire for smoother shifting, revised steering pump for better on center feel, etc: Link |

| Thanks for your answers. I'd like a 2005, but I think I can get a very good deal on a 2003 with 43,000 miles, looks pretty good. It has 4wd and it doesn't have leather or navi, so its just like I want it. |

| I had a couple issues with my 2003 that other members have also had. These include front struts leaking and the rear fan not blowing (replaced transistor). You may also want to make sure it doesn't have the 70mph vibration. Thankfully I don't have it, but some do. |

| I also own a 2006 Honda Accord, and at the www.driveaccord.net forums there's a lot of information regarding transmission failures in Accords. Are there any common problems with the transmissions of Pilots? |

The Pilot has not experienced the transmission failures that most of Honda/Acura's other V6 vehicles experienced. There have been a few problems posted here and there, but well within the normal level for a reliable vehicle. |
