| Just wrapped up an install of these items into my 2004 EX after researching the forums and wanted to let everyone know the JL Audio 6 1/2" speakers will not fit the front door without some modifications to the inside of the door panels. I had to dremel quite a bit of the plastic away to get them to fit. I think the 6" model would work just fine. I also put 5 1/4" in the rears with no problem. As far as the sub, it will fit, but you won't get hardly any bass from it due to the massive space inside/above the wheel well. I also put in a ZX700.5 Kicker amp and there was air blowing out of every hole in the back rear panel so you either need to fiberglass an enclosure or go with a box, which is what I ended up doing and there is a noticeable difference. My kids are watched Cars on the Clarion and it sounds almost as good as my home theatre Reference Klipsch system. The Clarion Max will fit, but required a custom trim panel. I didn't put the NAV unit on it yet, but I do have my Sirius and Ipod hooked up and it is just a great unit. It has two zone capability so you can hook up an overhead monitor and let the kids watch the movie in the rear while we listen to the radio up front. I used a box of Dynamat Extreme to cover both the inside of the door panels and the outside (where the white plastic was) as well as the rear wheel well. I do notice a difference from road noise, but not as much as you might expect, but I found it on eBay for a little over $100 shipped and figured I only wanted to pull it apart once. Sorry no digital camera so no pics, just wanted to share the info in case anyone is ever thinking of a similar upgrade. |

| Mine, we just made a wood spacer... fit fine without hacking the door panel 6.5's front and back.... The 12" sub in the stock location.. had to hack the hole, but it fit :) |

| I don't think you put the VR's in the front, especially if you put a spacer in. I had to cut metal to get them in the hole and the reason I had to dremel is because there wasn't enough space with it flat mounted between the speaker and the plastic on the inside of the panel. I have a 2004, so maybe you have a different model and they made mods. |

ThePilotster I'm trying to upgrade 2006 EXL audio, what 12 sub you used and what amp? What's the best way to place a replacement sub in the original location?
Thanks, |

With my JL xr650's I had to use a 1" mdf spacer instead of the platic mount that came with the original speaker. On top of this I still had to cut the opening in the metal part of the door bigger to accomodate them.
As far as the subwoofer I have a 10" CDT (the cheapest one at that) that I think blends VERY well with the speakers. The bass response is great with a 10". Since my sub is 4 ohm and my amp can do 2 ohm I wired a set of 5 way binding posts in that cubby area near the 3rd row cupholders so you can't see them. This way if I ever want to increase the bass I can add another 4 ohn boxed sub very easily. |

Thanks for the info, I'm going to the installer this week to put a sub and amp, I need some more help.
1. Front speakers do I have to use componets or can I use Kaption 6.5 2way that I have.
2. Can you recommend any speaker's for F/B and amp to power them
3. Do I need to Dynamat all four door and the sub area
