I'd love to control my aftermarket headunit w/ stock Pilot EX steering wheel contols. Anyway to retrofit them onto an LX?
I'm curious as to what Honda parts would cost or at least the part #. I'm looking to tie the wiring to an aftermarket SWI-PS interface.

I have no idea. Seems like it should be simple. I'll bet it's not. The steering wheel alone might be $500. Do they take the same airbag? Does your LX have cruise control? I can think of a mess o' things that would make it nearly impossible or at least prohibitively expensive; and I can't think of everything. Better plan on continuing to reach the extra 9" to change the station.
I could be wrong. |

Based on 5 min of research it doesn't appear to be all that hard.
The airbag assembly is the same on LXs and EXs for '04 Pilots. In fact the steering wheel is the same as well. Parts wise, the switch (controls) and the appropriate trim piece is about $30. The harness that plugs into the back of the switch will be the hardest to find since it appears to be attached to one of the main dashboard harnesses. These harnesses are expensive and would be a PITA to install since you would have to take apart most of the dash. I would just make a custom harness for the switch that matches the OEM connections. You may want to visit your local salvage yard and see if you can just cut off the piece you need. I'll try to copy the wiring diagram for you later. |

Thanks Ed. You answered some of my concerns. I wasn't sure if the airbag was the same or not. I was wondering about the plug going into the switch connector. If you can get me the diagram, I'm sure I can fabricate the connections. It shouldn't be more than a few wires. I might dremel down the connector and solder directly to the pins and apply heat shrink.
There's one more thing. Illust. No. 7 where the controls sit in come in 2 colors - titanium or silver. I have no idea which variety I have as these colors are close. My panel looks like a silvery/gold. I didn't know there was an option. |

No problem on the diagram and what you're planning to do is how I would approach it too. You can probably take the back piece off and get access to the pins.
If it's a silvery/gold color I would say go with Titanium. Also, I think Honda puts the color on the back of the trim so if you take one of yours off, the color/code might be there. |

Ed,
I have some difficulty reading this. I see a mention of a green wire.
What I'm looking for are the # of pins on the audio connector which pins have wires and what is their function.
I guess I'm looking for a pinout chart. |

| I'll look at the connector-detail diagrams to see if it can clear things up. It might just be that one green wire coming out of the control switch. If that's the case I'm guessing that there's only one pin to worry about. I'll put the diagram up when I get home. |

| Thanks Ed. The pieces are slowly coming together. Can you get me one more diagram of the main connector directly behind the driver airbag. The green wires from the audio switch go to this connector. |

| Unfortunately there's no reference to the center connector that all of the harnesses tie into. I know it's the Cable Reel but the connector diagrams only show the other end where it meets up the dashboard harness. Here's the diagram and hopefully it will help: |

It Works!! Thanks Ed for your diagrams. Your diagram labeled with the number 190 was the key (4 pin connector). 2 of the pins are not used, one I grounded, and the other I ran to the white wire of the SWI-PS.
All I have left is to figure out how I can get a cable through the cable reel of the steering wheel so it doesn't get tangled around the column. I'll do some experimenting this weekend. |

| That's cool....I was wondering how your project went. Glad I could help. Were you able to make any progress with your brake warning light issue? I took a quick look at the diagram and couldn't see how the bulbs would trigger the warning light. The only thing I could think of was the brake light failure sensor triggering the warning based on the low voltage of your LED lights. |

| Thanks. Another member is looking up the wire that controls the brake warning light. It's located in the passenger kick panel. If I don't hear back from him, I just may pull the brake warning bulb from out the dash. |
