Check Engine light on after OBD emissions check - Click HERE for Original Thread

Took the pilot for an Emissions check. This was a OBD based check.... pilot passed the test.

But on the way back the check engine light came on... it this just a coincidence or could taking the reading have done something?

The went off... Still curious if taking the reading could have caused it

I believe the technical term for this sort of thing is a "glitch". Sounds like too much of a coincidence to not be the cause, but if it stays off, I wouldn't worry about it.

Turns out there were two problems:

1. EGR Valve issue

2. Bypass Solenoid Failure (TSB 03001)

I still dont get how the two started right after I drove out of the emissions check

If they took the gas cap off when the engine is running (like when they test the gas cap during the e-check) it will trigger a temporary check engine light (fuel tank pressure sensor).

To verify, take the gas cap off when it's running and the light will come on.

nope ..see my post above. Turns out its was the EGR issue and the solenoid issue (known issues on 2003s).

What I dont get is how it happened right after the test.
