Tachometer reading - Click HERE for Original Thread

Picked up our 04 EXL last Saturday, it's a great driving car and wife and I love it, but I have a question regarding the tach. It only registers 2,000 rpm even when cruising at 65. Is this normal for Pilots? I'm used to the tach reading around 2500+ for that speed. I'm not complaining, just wondering what others are reading.

That's about right.

I don't know if the gearing has changed over the years, but my 2006 is geared very high (low RPMs), I think to try and get the gas mileage up. The RPM's are so low that a downshift is required for virtually anything, but fortunately, the transmission shifts very smoothly.

71mph @ 2000rpms is what I get on my 04

I was just reading the other day that MDX's also are geared for 35.5mph per 1000 rpms on the tach.

The super high gearing (again, low rpms @hwy speed) really makes it tough to tow my boat. I must run in D3 at 3500 rpms at 60 mph to keep the transmission from shifting all over the gears. D3 locks it in that 3rd gear, so hills and overpasses don't cause kickdown.

The excess heat will prematurely fry the transmission I'm told if it constantly is gear hunting while towing.

The fuel mileage goes down to about 10mpg on the hwy when towing my 3000 lb boat at such high rpms.
