This is on a 07 EX-L 4WD




I thought I seen a post on the forums somewhere about it but now I cant find it.


Ok, so the top air vents for the AC work fine.
What about the bottom vents? Does air actually come out of these guys?


Just wanted to confirm if this is normal before I go back to the dealer.

When the heat is on, the air comes out the bottom vents. With the A/C on, the air only comes out of the top of the rear vents.

It has taken me a while to get used to the AC/Heat in my 05, but I can tell you, whatever Honda engineering was thinking... it works, cause this vehicles AC is the best I have ever owned and the Heater is the same. The initial effect is not one to bowl you over, my other cars have had the effect of being more powerful units, but this one cools and heats the car to temp, super fast. its amazingly powerful, you can adjust where the air comes out, from the front, its the 2nd row that is kinda simple, just fan speed, temp and thats it, but crank the heater up and watch if fill the vehicle from the floor up, as the heat rises. You can also just totally kill its control from the front as well.

Heat can come out the top vents as well. You just have to set the front controls to so the air only comes out on the dash vents. If you split the air on the front controls, top and bottom vents, the air comes out the bottom only in the rear. It's all in the manual.

I read somewhere that the system in the pilot is the most powerful cooling system available in any vehicle currently. There is actually another coil for the rear AC - it isn't just splitting the air from the front but actually cooling it for the rear as well.

that would be correct. Its a powerplant and actually well thought out. Its simplicity in operation is often mistaken for under-performance. I think most people today like the bells and whistles of dual zones etc, which are nice. I am guessing that the Honda engineers were after How fast can we heat or cool this vehicle with minimal to no intervention.

I have friends with new Jeeps, in the summer time when it was baking outside, it didnt take long for folks to want to take the Pilot, as the Jeeps systems made a lot of noise and the folks in front were freezing in no time.. but the folks in back were never content. In the Pilot, everyone was pretty evenly comfortable in a very short period of time, and no one was too hot or too cold...I have learned to really appreciate my climate controlled system over the past 2 years, but it took me a while to realize its strength.
