I bought a used 05 EX-L w/RES not too long ago, and the dealer (A saturn dealer) had put brand new tires on it. Car had 40K miles. Anyway, after I bought it (I got it in Denver, but I live in Colorado Springs), I took it to my local Independant Honda/Acura service guy, and he did a pre-sales inspection on it. Everything was good, EXCEPT.....
The lower left rear control arm was bent. And, bent good. Had about a 20 degree bend in it. I guess I should have kept it so I could post a picture of it. There is/was no other damage visible. Rims are good.
His speculation was that perhaps when someone put it on a lift, they missed a load point, and actually used the control arm as a load point. Only problem with that theory seems to be that the bend is in the front/back plane, not in the up/down plane (bend is parallel with the ground).
My theory is that perhaps the guy who did the new vehicle transport chained the truck via the control arm or somehow got the control arm into the securing path, and during transport, the control arm got bent?
Anyone else have any ideas????
It was a pretty painless fix. $220 for the control arm repair and the 4 point alignment, and hopefully the new tires the dealer put on will last a while. |
