Is there any software I can use/install in office PC so that I will be able to connect to my home PC. I am now using "remote desktop" connecting my home PC to my office VPN server so that I can do some office work at home. What is the other way around?

if you have a public ip address at home you can install carbon copy in both computers or if not, there is a web connection service called gotomypc.com

does your office pc not have rdc? if it does, and assuming your vpn tunnel is active, that should work. maybe check your home pc, and make sure it allows incoming connections.

When I first got broadband (about 6 years ago), I set up a web server on my home PC just to see if I could access it from outside. But I left the ports open only for the day to see if it would work. Now, most ISPs block common ports for HTTP, FTP, P2P, etc.

I've had good experience with TightVNC , but only for tunneling through my work VPN from home, not the other way. For the life of me, I can't think of why you'd need or want to do this. I am only moderately knowledgeable on computer security. I wouldn't try it unless I was very knowledgeable.

I would think the only right way to do it is to set up a VPN server on your home box. I don't know of one but I bet you can find one at http://sourceforge.net/ .

I guess it really depends on the vpn setup. a hardware vpn box allows for traffic both ways, so there's no need for a vpn service on the home computer itself. and the isp can't block the secure channel. perhaps more info is needed from il38694.

I do not know the VPN setup at work. I will try the Remote Desktop from my office PC and see what will happen. Good suggestion. Thanks.

You will certainly need to open certain ports on your firewall/router at home. That is, of course, unless you're not using one.

Try this:

www.logmein.com

There is a free version that does not allow file transfer or several pay versions that allow different levels of file transfer/control. It allows multiple connections to different computers.

here's another vote for the logmein hamachi VPN software.

its free and works quite well.
