2003 Civic Hybrid CVT - Click HERE for Original Thread

My mother has a 2003 Civic Hybrid with the CVT transmission. She has just under 40,000 miles on it. At 25,000 the CVT would "shudder" at takeoff. It was worse when the car was cold but did it all the time. She brought it to our local dealer. They flushed the transmission fluid. (AKA changed it 3 times!!) They used the ATF Z1 as per the owners manual. At that time, the CVT fluid was available. I was told that fluid was fine... Honda stands behind it. (My thinking was/is if the Z1 fluid was good for that application, then why develop the CVT fluid?)
So here we are, at nearly 40,000 miles. The same "shudder" and the dealer says the transmission is shot (to the tune of 4,000$)
The car has had the transmission serviced at half the service intervals Honda recommends.
Mom has a call in to Honda of America. The dealer is mulling this over as to what they will do. I am of the opinion that Honda will step up....We will see...

Honda is replacing the transmission and the battery pack at no charge. Work should be done Tuesday.
