If you don't give me $100 you might be killed by a rabid bat.
Killed By Bat>>>>>>>Give me $100>>>>>Don't give me $100

So as we see, that even though the chance of being killed by a rabid bat is very low, it is still better to give me $100.

But what are the chances that the bat is just very angry and not rabid? :p
If I'm going spelunking in a cave full of rabid bats and you can guarantee a non-bite, here's my $100... |

Oh, I didn't say I guarentied you that you would not be bit.
Just that if, or if not, "we" are better off (in my opinion) if you gave me $100 before you go. |

| I really, really love the new trend to replace the term "Global Warming" with the new term "Climate Change". That way they cover all the bases. |

Are you saying that CC is just PC for GW? |

I really find it comical how you use a totally irrelevant possible solution in your scenario to try to make your point.
He isn't saying that global warming (or whatever everyone wants to call it now) definitely exists, or definitely doesn't, but that we should be minimizing our risk by cleaning things up just in case because doing that won't harm us at all.
I think a better example (& closer to the way that I think the guy in the video intended) by using your rabid bat scenario would be getting a rabies vaccine vs. not getting one. Sure getting bit by a rabid bat is unlikely, but what would it hurt by getting vaccinated just in case? |

Yeah, I know! It's kind of like how they use the term "The War on Terror" to cover all the bases too!

In the 70's it was "global cooling"......well that didn't happen so now it's global warming with it's intense hurricanes.......but wait.... that didn't happen and some scientists say the earth has stopped warming and is beginning to cool. My theory is that to insure a flow of research dollars coming the term is now "Climate Change" |

But Climate Change is normal.
We should study the devastation that would occur is the climate suddenly stopped changing.:4: :4:

My theory is very normal. But then again isn't there a theory that high co2 content killed the dinosaurs? Hmmm, didn't know they drove SUV's back then. |

All you've done here is repeat his own devil's advocate objection about giant mutant space hamsters. If you want to address the substance of his argument, rather than merely the formal logic, you can't blithely ignore his reference to the positions of the National Academy of Sciences and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. |

Maybe, but that's certainly not the dominant theory according to my 3-year-old. |
