I need to put a few miles to break in the tires(20-30 miles). It is supposed to snow Sunday eve/Monday morning.

PS: these are replacing a set of MDX wheels with summer tires.

I've heard nothing but good things about Nokian tires. Hope they do well for you.

Did you use a torque wrench or the impact wrench to reinstall? I've heard of problems with brake rotors when using an impact wrench and over-tightening the lugnuts.

Also, where did you position the floor jack? I'm due for my first tire rotation and don't want to mess the Pilot up.

yup I am expecting them to be quite good.

I used impact wrench to remove bolts. As you can see I have a make shift breaker bar for the persistent lugnuts. I put the lug nuts by hand and use the torque wrench to torque them.

I used the factory lifting points. No problem with a hydraulic jack. A few pushes and it lifts the Pilot no problem.

Any particular reason you didn't choose the newer Hakkapeliitta Sport Utility 5?

To be honest I did not notice a Hakkapeliitta Sport Utility 5. I know it is there but I guess I missed it back on Oct 15th when I bought the tires. I am guessing new version vs old version. They still offer both with about $150 difference between the new and old(per set).
If I did notice I would have considered and probably bought the 5's.

A bit of snow today.

I've been running my new Nokian Hakkapeliitta 5 SUV studded on my 2007 EX-L Pilot around town the last two weeks. On dry pavement, a bit on the noisy side. The noise is from the aggressive tread pattern and then the usual stud noise at reduced speeds. Haven't had these on snow yet. I do have a new set of Hakka 4's on my Honda Accord, same road noise, and have had serval occasions to drive in some early nasty winter weather up here in Washington. My first impressions of the Hakka's are very splendid indeed!! Very stable in slush snow, hard compact/icy conditions.

Just yesterday, a Ford Taurus was about 10 car lengths ahead of me, in my Accord, heading down a downhill stretch of I-90 when the poor guy swerved all over the roadway and spun out into the middle meridian. Myself, always anticipating what is ahead of me, did some aggressive braking for the conditions, and kept a straight and narrow. Heart pounding ~BIG TIME~!! Whew!! Don't need to tangle up in that!! Anyways, impressive on the Hakka 4's.

When the thick of winter sets in, I'll be getting the Pilot and it's Hakkapeliitta 5 SUV studded exposed to elements!

I have a set of MDX alloy wheels with Blizzak DM-Z3 snows 235/65/17's . . . Not the best tire , but they were $110 from TireRack.com . . best deal I could get locally for Nokians was 200 a tire ! Oh well .... My Wife's 06 CR-V SE has BFG winter slalomns on it and it is like a tank in the snow ! I really wanted Nokians ... I really did ! These are the wheels ... (file photo ,not my truck though ). I do not bother w/TPMS on the snows , even though they are on for 6 months... too much $$$ I just cover the warning light in the dash for the winter lol ...

We received about 6 inches of snow in CT yesterday. Needless to say the Pilot with the Nokians did not even skip a bit. We tried to avoid main roads that were not so well cleaned up and we even went up a around 20-30 degree uphill. I used 1st gear with the rear dif lock and the car did not even clinch or slip. (I do not even think I needed it but i wanted to see if it would make a diff.) What was a bit furstrating it was the other vehicles going at 2 miles an hr (most of them with 4WD). My wife was driving and she even said we can do 25-30 with no issues. :)

That's the difference between snow and all-season tires. You should see the looks I get when I tell people that. They really don't understand until their all-seasons won't get them up a hill.

so we got 9 inches up here, and I also had to dump the Pilot through a snowbank to pull out my trailer (to pick up a snowblower since my old one cr*pped out on Sunday - sigh...) - and the AWD with the Michelin LTX M/S on it worked great! I've got about 17k miles on these tires and they're great in all conditions - no need at all to get anything dedicated on the Pilot. This compares to the wife's AWD Freestyle with the Pirelli P6's - I outfitted her car with the Blizzak WS-60's and she's happy as a clam - but for the Pilot, the LTX's have never let me down!!
