Which tire has a stiffer side wall? - Click HERE for Original Thread

The ride of the Pilot is kind of floaty. Would tires with a stiffer side wall help? Which tire brand/model has a stiffer side wall? I'm still on the original GY Integrity.

Thanks.

That floaty feeling is awful isn't it. It causes uneven handling experience . IMHO the GYs are not strong/stiff enough to handle a car so heavy.

Just swapped out to the Bridgestone Alenza.

Its an HR rated tire that weighs a few pounds more than the GYs. You can feel a slightly heavier steering as a result, but you also feel a more stable consistent ride and handling.

Not having tried the Michelin lrx/xterrain, can't say if you'll get a similar result. Time for someone else to chip in with their experience

Recently installed Toyo Open Country A/T's. Have only about 1,500 miles on them but, so far, they handle much better than the original GY Integrity. I've been through one snow episode (2-3 inches), but had absolutely no slipping. With the GY's my anti-lick breaks were constantly operating in this type of snow. They have a bit of road noise, but considering it on an SUV in the winter, they seem to be dong a great job.

I as well did not like the floaty feeling with the stock tires. So I decided to get me a set of MDX 17's and put on a set of summer/sportier tires Yokohama Advan S.T. The Pilot is much more stable and more reassuring. They are really rated for Summer tires so I now have steelies with Nokian Hakapeliitas SUV. Car handled perfectly in the back roads during the 5 inches of snow storm we had yesterday.

So the first thing is that ANY tire will be better than the stock Integrity ones. Even the Bridgestone Dueler's that come on the LX and barebones EX are significantly better. I ran them on the '06 LX for about 10k miles, but they wore pretty fast and I went to the Michelin LTX and they're great.

Floaty is a relative term - some is the give in the suspension. I don't think that a stiffer sidewall will do that much to help in the stock 16" size, except to perhaps make the ride more harsh due to less "give" over the bumps. The Michelins are better than the Integrity tires (based on experience with the wife's 04), but if the floaty-feel is gone enough for your taste is something nobody can tell but you.

FWIW, our latest company cars come with the integrity (Chevy Impala) the drivers of them were complaining about the total lack of grip in the snow yesterday

Michelin LTX's firmed up the handling on my 2006 a bit, but they also seemed a bit noisier than the OEM tires (forget what it came with).

I'm currently looking at Yokohama Geolandar H/T-S. I also want to go wider than the original 235. This model has 245/255-70-16. The tire spec says 6.5-in rim is ok even for the 255. The overall diameter of 255 is about 1 inch larger than the original 235-70-16. I understand that the speedo will be off but I think that's ok. I'm not sure about rubbing though. That's right, floatiness is subjective. My goal is to improve as much as possible the ride/handling by keeping the original rims.

If you go wider with the same aspect ratio, the Pilot will feel even more "floaty", because of the taller sidewall.

I am considering these tires for my 08 Pilot

Any detailed feedback is appreciated
