BFG All Terrain T/A KO? - Click HERE for Original Thread
JeffKnob
I think I need to replace my tires soon. I currently have Mich LTX M/S tires. I have been thinking of the GY Fortera TripleTreads, Mich LTX AT/2, or the BFG All Terrain T/A KO. I like the idea of a more aggressive look. I am leaning toward the BFG's because of their aggressive look and according to tirerack reviews these are quiet on the road, have excellent traction all year, and last a long time. I was also thinking of getting the 245/70R16 to get something a little wider because I have the fender flares.

Does anybody have any thoughts on that?

I'd look at the Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO's. Many of the Tacoma guys run these and have no complaints at all. Comes highly rated at tirerack.com too.

I did a little more looking and noticed that the BFG's are about 50lbs and most of the others including the REVO's are closer to 35lbs. This would probably hit me when it comes to gas mileage.

I do still like how aggresive the BFG's look and how deep the tread is. They look like they would do better in the snow than the others.

I had the BFG's on my F-150. I replaced them with LTX M/S. My experience with them are that #1 they are louder, and the traction from them was not any better than with the LTX's. I also found that the BFG's tended to hydroplane more often than the LTX's. We've had both the Cross-terrains and LTX's on the Pilot and I prefer the LTX's. As someone else mentioned get the Revo's if you are looking for something with an agressive look. Buddy of mine had them on an Excursion and really liked them.

Thanks, That is great to know. I have seen reviews that say they are quiet but that is probably relative to what the person had on there before. When you look at the tread, it looks as though it would be noisy.

my bridgestone AT revo are noisy below 40 mph but after that, it is okay. the good thing about it is even when you are almost near the wear marks, there is still a lot of thread left. I will buy another one of the revo's when it wears off. snow, wet and dry grip is phenomenal and having an aggressive thread is a plus.

If you haven't bought the tires yet my vote is for the BFG KO's. They do make some noise though (just a slight glowl) but otherwise there's no better AT tire IMO. I've had 2 sets on my Tacoma - mud, snow, rocks = no problem and I got over 50k out of them and I've always been hard on tires. Then again you might want a more road based tire for the pilot. BTW the 235/70/16 is 38lbs http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec....tirePageLocQty=

I have BFG KOs on my 2500HD Duramax pickup and love them. They do a great job in the rain and off-road. I don't notice any more noise on them than the previous Wrangler A/Ts. I think they would look good on my wife's Pilot but I'm sure she would think otherwise. :p

All that extra weight will not only affect mpg, but braking and the extra height will adversely affect acceleration and speedo accuracy

Have you looked at the Yokohama geolander AT +II?

If looks count these may work for you

I had a set of BFG All Terrain T/A KO tires on a 2002 Toyota Sequoia. I loved how rugged they looked with the wicked tread design and the solid white lettering on the sidewall. After driving on them for about 100 miles I took them back to Discount Tire and replaced them with Michelin Cross Terrains. The BFGs were just way too noisy, had slow response time to steering wheel input, and had a rough ride on the freeway. I don't go 'off-roading', so these tires just were not a good fit for my driving style. The guy at Discount Tire said they're a 10-ply Light Truck tire meant to carry heavy loads. A relatively light suv like a Pilot might not be a good fit for a LT rated tire.

I ended up getting the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos 255/70/16. These are great. With the LTX's my ABS would kick in all the time in the winter. With the Revos, the ABS doesn't have to kick in because they grip so well. The difference in traction is like night and day.

Hi JeffKnob,

Does the 255-70-16 fit ok? How is the ride and handling different from the original 235-70-16? Less bumpy/floaty and more grip? I was thinking getting 255-65-16 but it requires a 7-in rim.
JeffKnob
There isn't much of a difference in the ride from my 235/17/16 LTX's. I do think there is more grip but I think that is more because of the model of tire. It does rub slightly sometimes when I turn all of the way to either direction.

i have the at revo myself. 245/70-16 and after 65k miles it still has a lot of thread left. it is a little bit noisy and I'm not sure if it is the hubs/ bearings or not. maybe just the tires. but I don't want to lose the excellent grip and confidence that this tire provides I am going to buy the same tire again.......
