| So if you guys read in the "problems" section, my transmission needed to get replaced...Anyhow when my transmission was getting fixed Honda said that my 2003 Pilot was a 4x4 and I thought it was a 2x4. The service guy explained when the car detects slipping then the Pilot kicks into 4x4. Now I'm from California and when I go snowboarding cars need to have chains if it's a 2x4 or the car needs to be a 4x4 (depending on the road conditions). Since my Pilot is technically a 4x4 will I be able to get away without chains? |

| if i remember correctly, all pilots from 2003-2005 came standard with 4WD. yes, you can get away without chains, as long as you have all-season or snow tires. just tell the chain installation patrol guys at the summit you have 4WD and they should let you get on your way. |

| My sister has an '04 2wd model. I would think you would know if you had a 2 wd model? Especially if you were the one who purchased the vehicle. |

If it is a Pilot and it is an '04 and it has not been modified, then it IS 4WD.
Some people "KNOW" more than they really know! |

best way to tell:
look under the car from underneath the rear bumper. no need to get under the car. if you see a rear differential, you have all wheel drive. |

Best way to also tell is to check for the VTM Button next to the radio.....or if 2006 and newer, it will have the 4WD emblem pasted on the rear hatch door. |

all 04s (and 03s) are 4wd. It comes on if the vehicle detects slippage or if you turn it on with the VTM button (only in low gears, under 15 mph and not on dry pavement) |
