I want to connect my Dell Latitude D620 to my home theater receiver. This is networked to other PCs at home and the external HD which has all digital content.

However my laptop only has a VGA connector... how do I convert it to the Video Out to go to my receiver ?

does ur receiver has RGB (component)? if it does, it's a lot easier.

There are VGA to RCA/S-Video converter, but they might not work depending on what video comes with your laptop.

U can also buy some cheap USB TV tuner which usually comes with S-Video or RCA video out for reasonable price.

I was looking at the VGA to RCA/S-Video converters and people had mixed luck.. not sure what ot look for there...

will also look for the USB tuners..

Too bad that Dell took out the S-video port on the D620. My D600 has S-video and I use it occationally to display to a TV monitor. Works good for DVDs, but not really usable for looking at the desktop display

I have had luck with this pinout:

you can beef-up the sheilding on the wire from CAT5 and get even better!

I use this for my projector and component to my old CRT TV with RGB inputs.

VGA is actually a component (RGB) connection. But if you want to do VGA to RCA/S-Video, then it's different issue.

U can get a $5 VGA to RCA/Svideo converter, but depending on the video card, it might not work.

here is an example.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.4667 $3.18 shipping included, but not guaranteed. I have this kind of cable and it works on one of my Sony laptop. But I tested it out with many other laptop with different video card and it does not work at all.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.747 This will work if you have component on your TV.
