Yeah but not for the US. :cursin: I have long admired the Tourer they have in Europe and to be honest, it would be my main choice against a Pilot which is why they probably won't bring it in unless they want to go 4WD and call it a crossover.

I found my next commuter car for work and around town. The Accord Diesel wagon, nice looking car and the engine sounds like it will be a world leader for some time to come.

The Euro Accord has been our Acura TSX, but we've never gotten the wagon version. If VW's new Jetta Sportwagon takes off, things could change.

if only they imported it to the us and gave it sh-awd :2:

I was thinking the same thing! Then it'd be bye bye ScubbyRu!

i wanted a wagon so badly. the wife and i looked at 3-series wagons, wrx, and is300 sportcross. i wanted to get the is300 wagon we found, but when we discovered that it's cargo room was the same as the '03 civic si we were going to unload, she passed on it.

this is just an observation, but the last couple of honda products we have had haven't been as satisfying as the older ones (acura integra, CRX). they do a lot of things well, but they just don't stand out in any one area.

the pilot is nice, but it's just not something i look forward to driving.

a SHAWD TSX or accord wagon would definitely get my attention. i absolutely hate driving FWD vehicles. Audi's tarted-up VW aesthetic scares the crap out of me, BMW's 3-wagons drive fantastic, but at a premium. The WRX is boring inside and too boy-racer for us. The sprotcross is fantastic, but a little too small.

the RDX still interests me, but i want to se how it shakes out after 2-3 years of production.
rocky
Surprised the Subarus didn't make it on your list Steve.

oh it did. the wrx is just too boyracer for my taste. the interior bites it, too. it feels pretty cheap, though i like the way they drive. a little laggy though. i looked at the saab 9-5 (wrx twin), and there were some good deals on those, but the wife said it wasn't "professional" enough for her. the killer was the insurance, too. with all the kids driving and wrecking them, they are extremely expensive to insure in SOCAL.

my wife is an account manager and has to visit clients, so leather seating and a decent ride is a must. we have a retired greyhound that likes room to sprawl on our longer drives. i'm a designer and a race junkie so i use the pilot to carry car parts and design build materials.

i'd love an S4 avant, but man those audis have some serious issues.

So don't throw this recommendation out as a matter of course - but we absolutely LOVE our Freestyle. It's a wagon for all intents and purposes, is AWD, is extremely comfortable, and has more room than the pilot - while getting much better MPG. The '08 Taurus X is pretty much the same thing but without the CVT tranny and with a 3.5L. The fit/finish of ours has been outstanding, and it drives better than I'd expected. It's not a sports car - but it does do a much better job on corners and in handling than the Pilot - I prefer the Ford over the Pilot more and more as time goes on. We've got about 12,500 miles on it after 8 months, and all I do is change the oil and add gas. The AWD in the winter is the best I've ever driven, by far. And the creature-features are on par with Acura and Lexus. Memory seats/mirrors/pedals, trip computer, full auto climate control, DVD (and you can get nav and sunroof), and the walk-out-the-door price is under $30k for all of that.

So while most of you think that you'll never take on a domestic vehicle again, I was the same way when we got this, but something is very different about this car - and in a good way. I think that a lot of the Mazda and Volvo heritage comes through here, and it's certainly worth considering....

Maybe is the New Toyota Venza becomes popular we will get the Accord waggon.

My predictions: Waggons are back and "Sport Waggons" will lead the pack!

I was thinking more Legacy Outback than WRXs

In my post Pilot phase (not for several years) a wagon would work nicely

The big drawback for me with the Subaru wagons is that all but the base models require higher than regular unleaded.

At 20 miles per gallon, 12,000 miles a year, 20 cents more per gallon, you're looking at another $120, or $10 a month. Working from home an extra day a month, and I've saved that in gas and lunch costs. :p
scuba steve
fuel mileage isn't really that big of a concern (we bought the pliot :p ).

my take on the domestics...i worked for ford early in my career. my first racecar was a '91 escort gt in SCCA ITA, more mazda than ford tho. i grew up in detroit. domestics don't do it for me anymore, which is a shame.

give me a sport wagon, make it automanual, RWD or AWD, give me about 20mpg, leather seats, navigation, GREAT handling, excellent styling (IN and out), give it good reliability. i'll buy it.
rlapid
just like scuba steve, i'm also interested in AWD/4WD sedans or wagons, but mainly for better mpg. i was considering the audi a4 quattro 1.8t, but i've heard many reliability issues. i was also considering the toyota matrix 4wd, but its underpowered. then there was the subaru wrx and mitsu evolution, both of which are pricey and very boy-racer inspired. the lexus is250 awd would be nice, but its out of my price range and it probably runs on premium octane. the list goes on and on.... which is why i'm really hoping the toyota venza makes it to production and honda imports that tourer accord (WITH SH-AWD!)
rocky
Sounds like an Accord Diesel wagon would be popular.

40mpg in everyday usage would make a HUGE difference to anyone driving a Pilot today.

From What CAR? (England)

Honda to build its first diesel auto
06 February 2008

• On sale in 2009
• Will be sold in Accord range initially
• Refreshed Accord to be unveiled next month

Honda's first diesel-powered car with an automatic gearbox will go on sale in early 2009.

The five-speed automatic transmission will initially be fitted to the next-generation Accord and Accord Tourer, before being rolled out across the Honda range.

Details of the revamped Accord will be released next week, ahead of its official unveiling at the Geneva motor show in March.

The car will initially go on sale this summer with three engine choices: 2.0- and 2.4-litre petrols, and a 2.2-litre diesel.

The Accord and Accord Tourer are lower and wider than their predecessors, and Honda expects the Accord's sportier image and top-end equipment levels to allow it to battle with the BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS and Audi A4 for sales.

Is anybody at Honda listening?

Lets get the mantra going - Tour - er Tour - er Tour -er

if honda is truly going after this market of estates, they better not come into the game with a FWD layout. ass>platter

GREAT thread!! All this is interesting, before buying my 07' Pilot I had a Freestyle for a week to drive Toronto to Tenessee and back. I really liked it and was seriously considering it until a couple of internet threads scared me off! They complained of brakes going at 10-12k....

I wanted a wagon instead of my Pilot but nothing fit my taste/price....I was thinking of the last model year Accord Wagon but didn't want to inherit problems of a used car.

A wagon AND diesel are high on my list for the next vehicle. I want a car with lots of room, 4wd and great fuel economy....are you listening HONDA.....I am a little biased towards hondas, first car was a 1980 Civic and then Civics again from 1994 until I bought my Pilot. It was hard for me to jump up to a V6 and I am paying for it at the pumps.....But I have a hard time leaving the safety blanket that Hondas have provided for some 16 years of driving..

It's not AWD, but you might want to track what is going on with the Jetta TDI diesel wagon, due this summer sometime.

AWD isn't critical to me and runs against the grain of a lighter/simpler car with better fuel mileage and doesn't have terminal understeer, so I don't view the FWD as a drawback. Other aspects are quite nice: good room, incredible mileage (reported to be in the 45 range overall and into the 50's on the highway), decent power for a diesel (140 hp and tons of torque) and availability of the DSG transmission with computer control of a coventional clutch (no torque convertor). Price is supposed to be under $25K even with the diesel and DSG.

There is the usual concern about VW reliability though which seems to go up and down over the years. It probably means that the averages say you'll get a reliable car, but if you get a lemon, katy bar the door.

I have a friend who just got a new R32 with DSG and it's quite a system. This really is the tranny of choice if you want an auto.

meh. honda has 5 suvs (if you include the ridgeline) in it's american lineup. i doubt they would bring a wagon back. shame, really.
