Hello All,
I will be getting the OEM goodyears replaced this weekend but i do not know what tire to buy. I have had 2 bad winters with the oem tires and regardless that i have little mileage on them i do not feel they are safe. I am leaning towards 3 tires which are: the goodyear silent armor, triple tread and the michelin cross terrain suv. I think the michelins are my number 1 choice right now any feed back would be great so i can order the tires today. I have michelins on my accord that i just recently put on and i love them so i hope to have the same experience with the CR's. The goodyears scare me because i read threads about loss of gas mileage and road noise. i can't imagine the goodyears being any worse then the oems that are on the pilot already. any help from anyone that has driven on these tires would be great.
Thanks |

| If you're worried about winter driving, I would get the TTs. They are winter service rated, and I noticed a decrease in road noise after I had them installed. You're mileage may suffer slightly, but the added winter traction is worth it in my opinion. |

| For winter driving, the TTs are the next best thing to dedicated snow tires. I just replaced a set of TTs for other reasons, but in the snow, they were excellent. |

| If you haven't seen this thread, its worthwhile reading through. It contains plenty of opinions and mentions many tires you may not even of thought of. |

I am very happy with my Michelin Cross Terrain SUV's. Winter performance is excellent & road noise has reduced compared to the OEM Integrities.
I decided on Michelins over Goodyear due to the fact that I have almost always gotten more life out of a set of Michelins than Goodyears, though I will admit that I have never had a set of TT's. |

| When my tires need replacing, I'm going with the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza in a slightly larger than OEM size 245/70 16. I've never been a big fan of Goodyear tires. Check out the review at Tirerack.com on the Alenzas. |

| I think i'm gonna go with my gut and get the michelins. i mean if they are good forthe mdx they have to be good for the pilot. |

We had CTs on our MDX and now have TTs on the Pilot. There is no comparison in winter driving - the TT's are far superior. I don't notice any more noise with the TTs compared to the OEM Bridgestones. I can't really compare the noise of the CTs verus the TT's because the MDX had more sound insulation than the Pilot. |

Have the Alenza Stock size.
I'm happy with their performance so far in all weather conditions. |

| would anyone one be interested in buying 4 OEM goodyear tires with only 17,000 miles on them? |

| I purchased the Silent Armors in a 245/70/16 and was really happy... until I started noticing some rapid uneven wear. At 25k miles, two of the tires are completely worn. I will be purchasing the cross terrains next along with a 4-wheel alignment! There are several Honda Pilot owner posts on tire-rack that cite quick wear on the SAs. |

| I've got almost 20K on my TripleTreds and I couldn't be happier. I just wish we'd get some snow once in a while. |

IIRC, the Cross Terrains got a HORRIBLE rating from consumer reports in their tests on different SUV/light truck tires, 17th place out of 20. The GY Fortera HL model was the best. |

I have to plug the TTs. They are an amazing tire on the Pilot.
Road noise was reduced and the car feels stiffer vs. OEMs. MPG was unchanged in my unscientific tests. They really grip like crazy in rain, snow, and ice.
I did not ever think that a tire could make as much difference as the TTs do. There may be other betters ones out there but they would have to be totally amazing to beat the TTs. IMO.

I just replaced the GY's with a set of BFG's Long Trail T/A's.:D
The ride has improved dramatically in dry conditions.:)
The noise level was decreased considerably also.
There is a chance of rain in the next couple days so I might get to try them out in wet conditions soon.
Reports will be coming in the future.

Hey xGS, does CR have any info on the Bridgestone Alanzas? Interesting that they rated the Firestone Destination LE above the Michelin XC and LTX.
I am looking for something better than the Integrities and quieter. XCs have the edge over LTXs on noise and handling per Tire Rack. |

On the Tire Rack graph the ones CR rated the best was way down on the list, if you sort by size, just above the BFG's which they rated last.
I also considered the Alenza's, which I wanted, but the dealer was to far away for it to be feasible.:(
I got the BFG's at Sam's Club. They also had the GY TripleTreds and Cross Terrain SUV's.
None of the 3 dealers that sell the BFG's and SUV's think the SUV's are that much better of a tire. Especially when you consider they are $250.00 per set of 4 higher.
I had 12,149 miles on the GY Integrities and they were wearing evenly so they were not worn out. The difference in the ride quality is amazing. The vehicle no longer "weaves" back and forth going down the highway at any speed above 50 mph. They are quieter by a long shot.:4:

Not that I've seen. Those test results are from 2004 so it might be time for another light-truck tire test report this fall. What I don't like about the Alenza is that not all of the sipes in the tread are of full depth. As the tread wears down, you'll lose some biting edges which will tend to reduce the grip in winter weather.
The test rankings are somewhat skewed because CR chose to weight the results for braking, handling and hydroplaning higher than the results for winter driving or comfort. If you never see snow, then the Destination LE could be a good choice, otherwise one of the Michelins would make more sense. For my needs, I’d rather trade off dry road performance for bad weather traction so that the vehicle responds more consistently throughout a wide range of driving conditions.

Unless you're after that last bit of dry road performance, the LTX M/S is a great tire. If it had a cap ply it'd be almost perfect. You can get a fair impression of what the LTX M/S is like by test driving a Ridgeline. |
