No way!!!

Our political thread activity is way down compared to where it should be with all the political crap happening these days!:4: :4:

For me the last couple of days, the site's largely been down. It's just directs to a blank white screen. Now that's slow!

That's been happening to me as well. When I checked, the problem did not seem to be affecting our sister sites. I need to fire off a note to Daniel to see what's what.

While you at it, ask him about an upgrade to the board, so that when I go back and fix my typos and such they get reflected in all the "quotes" too. :p

Would you like me to take sight on the site?

It's intermittently affecting the MDX site also: Link

Thanks - I missed that. Sounds like Daniel is on top of the situation.

I'm just amazed all this crap works as well as it does. :8:

If you think about it, almost everything related to computers, networks and software are intended to operate at or near their theoretical limits. Can you imagine if bridges, firearms or chainsaws were designed the same way?

What the heck are you talking about.

Most computer systems with exception of processor speed (for the very short window just at release) and wireless transmission are all well below any "theoretical" limits. Most problems are due to poor hardware and software implementations.

Most mechanical systems are much closer to theoretical limits (with appropriate margins designed in).

On the other hand, I am also just amazed all this crap works as well as it does.
You have thousands of different code modules (poorly) written by thousands of different people/teams/companies, running on thousands of different configurations of hardware, designed by thousands of different people/teams/companies; and in general it does what is expected! Now that is just F-ing Amazing!!

Then they're not operating at or near the point of failure. That's why computer systems fail regularly and mechanical systems rarely do.

I'm even MORE amazed that we all get along as well as we do!!!!!!

No, mechanical systems don't operate at the point of failure because at some level the designer has taken the point of failure into account and has applied proper engineering design and allowed some amount of margin.

Software designers general work from the mindset that everything outside their realm is working 100% and will always work at 100%. There is little effort applied to understanding what are the limits and where margin needs to be applied. There is also a woeful lack of understanding on the effect of substandard operation of any component or module (Theirs or other ones impacting the operation of theirs)

The MDX ones look like a bolt in replacement.

BTW the Site is SLOoooooow or fails to download 80% of the time.

HP.org servers are really starting to frakking piss me off. At least 75% of the time the site will load slow or just show a blank page. I have a T1 connection at work and on DSL at home so I really don't think it's my connection.

HP.org better suck it up and upgrade to better servers or they'll lose some members.

Some we could afford to lose................. ;)

I sent a note to Daniel to see if he could update us on what is going on.

Still worth the price of admission.

I've noticed that the more posts in a thread, the slower it seems to be. It usually takes me three or four tries to open the "...ask here first..." thread, but new threads with one or two posts open right away.
