Safari bar crap - Click HERE for Original Thread

FYI to anyone considering a safari bar-they are crap. I have had mine on my always washed and garaged pilot for two 1/2 years and it is rusting terribly. Never again will I buy one of these. It looks terrible already.

hmm... i don't go on safari's in my pilot too often so i probably won't need a safari bar. :D joking aside, is this true of all safari bars, regardless of brand/material? and of course... :needpics:

Very funny, don't quit your day job. Mine is made by westin. So is the rear guard which is rusty.

Yes, but did you learn about a little advance called "Stainless Steel"?

Most auto accessories are like that are made from mild steel, and rust is just what they do.

I have had a Westin Safari bar on our CR-V since Christmas 2001, and there's no rust anywhere on it. Maybe because you drive on salted roads in the winter is why, but down here in Florida, no problems.

I guess it is just bad luck for you this time (BTW, is your bar Black one)? I had my chrome Westin Safari Bar installed for 2.5 years, last winter I washed the car for only 2-3 times, it was always dirty the whole winter with a layer of salt, but after I washed and waxed my Pilot last weekend, the Westin bar still looks like new, no rust at all. BTW, I do Krown rust proofing every year and so far no single spot of rust noticed on my Pilot. :2:
