shortest suv? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Rather than do the work myself, perhaps someone out there knows the shortest suv?

Rather than replace my Pilot we may replace my wife's Mariner. She wants the shortest suv available. Probably years ago it would have been the Tracker. The Mariner is 174" long.

Thanks

According to Edmund's "Small SUV's". the Jeep Wrangler is the shortest at 162.9". Next is the Honda Element at 169.3" and next is the Hyundai Tucson at 170.3".

If you want any more info than that, well you can do the work yourself.

:4: jeep wrangler, a lot of aftermarket following and timeless design.

I'd try and talk her out of making length her sole criteria for selecting a SUV. Give her a range of smaller SUVs and let her trade off the length differences with all the other things. It would be silly to select the lousy-on-the-road, great-off-road Wrangler over the much nicer all-around Element because it is 7" shorter if she never intended to use the Wrangler off-road.

There are a large number of small AWD crossovers available today that are overall smaller/lighter than most SUVs. If all she wants is AWD, these would feel smaller and get much better gas mileage then a Wrangler, even if they might be slightly longer.

I have driven an element as a rental when I had my timing belt service done by the dealer and it is not a SUV. maybe a CRV, outlander, cx7 but not an element!

Just curious, why is your wife looking for the shortest SUV out there? Will the approx. 4-5" difference in length between the Mariner and an Element or a Tuscon make a meaningful difference?

We have street parking only in my neighborhood, so I definitely understand the benefits of having a shorter car. But at 174" the Mariner is already pretty manageable compared to most other mid-sized vehicles in my opinion.
