Hello Everyone,
I have never purchased an extended warrenty on a vehicle and maybe at 59 I am losing my mind a bit because I decided to do so on my 2005 Pilot.
I purchased the warrenty right before my 3 years were up and I had about 29,000 miles on the vehicle. With the new warrenty I have an additional 5 years of coverage up to 110,000 miles total.
My reasons for doing so are several that seem importent to me.
One, while I still work on my vehicles it is getting harder to do so.
Two, it seems to me that the cost $1400.(Purchased from Honda) seems reasonable given the time on the warrenty and the possibility seems good that before a 100,000 miles I will use it for repairs. Even if I get only say 500.00 paid under the warrenty that drops the cost to 900. If something major happens then it becomes a free ride sorta speak.
Three it seems if I decided to sell the Pilot at a later point the resale value would be better given I can transfer the warrenty to a new person.
I would appreciate any comments whether positive or negative.
It just seemed at this point in my life it made sense. Sorta like the trip protection also.
Also liked that Honda would allow me to pay it off for 18 months at zero interest.
Thanks, |

Good for you!!!
I did the same thing when my '04 was getting close to the end of the factory warranty. My reasons were mainly because of moderate towing that I do. See the boat in the avatar.
I also like the fact that it could have a lot of 'wow' value if I ever decided to sell a Pilot. Imagine listing it somewhere... newspaper, craigslist, ebay, wherever... and saying that it still had full factory warranty for the next 'xxx' years or 'xxx' miles, whichever comes first.
Peace of mind and paying it off interest free seems cool to me!
The best I could do was 7 yrs/100,000 miles. You appear to have gotten an extra year and a few more miles. Then again, I paid $1000 for mine back in '05 |

Hello Jestmaty,
Good to see someone agree with my points.
Before I had the Pilot I owned a jeep for about 13 years and put about 140,000 miles on her before buying the pilot.
The jeep was just a simpler vehicle and with manual transmission and hight clearance it was easy to do the work myself.
Hopefully I will never need the extended warranty. I will keep the vehicle maintained right.
So far the Pilot has been a very good vehicle. Given the complexity of the vehicle though I imagine serious problems will have to be dealt with by the dealer.
Thanks, |
