rims, tires and offset? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Looking to upgrade my 2007's rims and tires. Florida, no off road, so main concern is wet traction. Yokohama Parada Spec X and Hankook Ventus RH06 are getting great reviews. Will go with 20 inch rims and either 255/45/20 or 275/45/20. The latter is taller, but is cheaper and recommended at most sites. Curious, Discount Tire lists rims with offsets from 30-45. Honda and other sites list this range as 34-42. When I queried Discount about this he said they show 30-53 as fitment for the Pilot and guarantee the fit. Has anyone here gone outside the Honda offset range and if so, good or bad idea? Thanks again

Black Rhino has a 20 inch wheel I like: 'Burst'. Discount tire has it listed as fitting a 2007 Pilot with an offset of 30. Honda's min says 34. Discount says they show 30-53 as acceptable. Has anyone gone hi or low on offsets and what problems might be anticipated? Discount has a 12 month interest free plan and $100-150 off in incentives and/or rebates. I would like to take advantage of this if I can get an answer. Incidentally, a mumber of sites say 40 is the 'ideal offset for a 20 incheron a Pilot - must be a reason.

It is my understanding that offset is determined/affected by Width of tire/wheel and clearance issues - not by Diameter. I would be highly suspect of any person/place/website that says to go with a 40 offset for a 20" wheel (without considering the widths of the wheel and tire you're planning on installing)...
