Question for the 7 wire trailer plug gurus. Installed converter from E-Trailer for the 4 wire setup. Hooked up to a 7 prong recepticle and added 12 volt supply for aux battery and trailer brakes. Did the job very meticulously. A very clean install. Hooked brake controller (Prodigy) to the white with yellow wire on brake switch for the trigger. My question is why do I get a relay closing sound in the steering column when brake is applied?
Only happens when key is on and or engine is running. Any ideas? |

| My guess is that "relay sound" was there before you started and you never noticed it. Is the Pilot new to you or have you had it for a while? When you apply the brake in Park, a "solenoid" (not sure if thats the correct term) activates allowing you to shift out of park. This is probably the noise you are hearing. |

Does the brake controller work properly with a trailer connected? Just going off memory here, it seems like the wire on the brake switch wasn't white with yellow, but I could be wrong. I thought it was white/black. |

| I think you're right jarizzo. I double-checked and it was the white with black on my 2003. I would assume it would be the same for an '04, but eccolie may want to double check. |

Dustino8 convinced me I'm not crazy on this one... :-)
There is a white/yellow wire, but I don't think that's the one you want to tie into for a brake controller. It looks like the white/black wire is the one you want. If the controller is feeding voltage back through a different circuit, who knows what could happen. If the brake controller doesn't kick in when you hit the brake, I would switch the wire over to white/black unless someone else chimes in here to say I'm wrong.
Let us know what you do and how it works out.
Cheers!

| Thanks for the replies. I checked the wiring and I did tap into the white / black wire for the trigger. Do not know why I said black / yellow ??? I then realized the clicking only happened when brake applied in park. That lead me to satisfy my curiousity by removing the steer column cover. Indeed it is the solenoid that releases the lock on the gear selector. I have owned the pilot since new and do not recall ever hearing that click. It seems as though the controller mysteriously amplified the voltage to make the solenoid close harder. (Is that a rational statement?) I could satisfy my curiousity again by checking voltage. All trailer functions operating satisfactory. Again, thank you Dustino8 and Jarizzo for the replies. |

Good deal eccollie, glad you got it figured out. I'll pay attention to that when I hook up the camper for the first time next month. Let us know if you have any other questions. There is a good deal of information available on this site. The Search feature will yield good results.
Welcome to Hondapilot.org!
Cheers!
