I have a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L with Nav. This is a great vehicle, but like we all know it lacks in the stereo.
I replaced the stock speakers with Polk DB651. There is not enough power to make it loud enough.
Anyway, somebody backed into my vehicle at a red light, so it is now broken in.. They got a ticket and should have gotten a stupid driver award...
While they were fixing it, I got to speak with the Honda shop foreman and he instructed me on how to disconnect the ANC.... Just pull out the nav unit and unplug the connector from the little metal box (about the size of an Altoid container).
Once I did that it got rid of that bass noise and the speakers actuall sound a bit better.
My project this weekend is to install an Alpine MRP-F250, and MTX X Thunderlink. I bought some scratch and dent and all totaled about $400. When I add in the speakers the total deal is $550.
I hope I will be happy with the new sound. I am fine cutting the factory wires and soldering new wires to hook up the amp and run the outputs back into the speaker leads.
The one thing that I have not figured out is how to hook up the remote turn on for the amplifiers. I was thinking I could just take a multimeter and test wires to find one that puts out 12v when the radio is on and nothing when it is off.
I read in another thread that there is a pin 1 that is the amplifier remote.
If this is true, then my search is over. I just wanted to confirm this and/or see how others have solved this problem.
I want my amps on when the HU is on and off when it is off. |

well, i have a 2008 pilot EX without NAV, but I doubt there is any difference in the wiring.
The constant 12v+ (HU memory) is White for me
The Switched 12v+ is White/Red (White with a Red Stripe)
Instead of cutting any wires, I tapped into the speakers and the switched 12v+ for the amp
using 22-18 AWG taps i picked up at radioshack. The work perfectly.
Easy to use TAP
hope this helps

I think you missed what he wanted to do. He said he wants the amps on only when the HU is on, not just when the key is turned. I can only imagine that the HU must have some kind of 12v trigger. Anyone with a wiring schematic care to chime in? |

Actually that is what i meant when the key is in the acc position is when the HU is on so is the 12VPower Outlet. And as i said is the easy spot to get power for the amp or amp's. |

I get what you're saying, but I think he (originl poster) wants to know if there's a 12V trigger tied to the power button on the radio itself. For example if he's driving and turns off the radio he wants his amps to shut off even though the key is still turned. I know my old Alpine HU has a separate amp turn on lead as well as a power antenna lead. When the HU is powered on the amp turn on lead is hot, but shuts the amps off if I turn off the radio. The power antenna lead is hot ONLY when in radio mode, not CD or AUX. I suspect he's looking to have the amps shut down with the radio rather than the vehicle, but I could be wrong, sure wouldn't be the first time! |
