Towing mirrors?? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Will be picking up our Fleetwood pop-up camper in the near future and would like to get some towing mirrors to improve rear vision. Anyone used anything with their Pilot? Would prefer some clip on type or something.

Welcome!!!

I've been towing a small Fleetwood p/u for the last couple of years as well as an 18 foot boat behind my Pilot. ( Not at the same time though  )

The small round 3" stick-on mirrors, which are available from ANY auto parts store or even WalMart have worked really well!

As long as you can trust what you see in the small mirror, you should have no problems. The Pilot has like 'zero' blind spots, and of course your popup will block a small spot at the rear passenger zone.

It drives passengers nuts when they ride with me in my cars because I don't ever turn around to check blind spots... I drive cautiously and use the small, round mirrors when making lane changes. Look in the big, stock r/v mirror and also check the round one, then go for it.

Rainy weather changes my approach just a bit..... then I do turn and check when moving over.

What Fleetwood did you get? We bought the starter model in Jan '06. From the element series.... called the Taos. Very small at 1500 lbs, 8 X 7 box, and only 17ft X 7 when 'popped up'.

We're going to the other extreme...getting an '06 Niagara. Yes, I'll be at the towing limit, but I've installed Airlift and will get Prodigy brake controller this week.

I see you're in Katy...we're actually headed down that way in a couple of weeks and while on our visit with family will be picking the Niagara up in Sugarland.

Just bought the smaller 1.5" round mirrors but haven't installed yet. The 3" don't take up too much of the normal viewing area? Since the Niagara is high wall and 7'5" wide, not sure if these will be enough.

Thanks for your input! I'll let you know how the combo of Pilot and Niagara works out!

I'm curious as to how you plan to tow your p/u?

My '04 Pilot has 51,000 trouble free miles... not a hint of any problem.

My boat and trailer weighs in at +/- 2400lbs and my Pilot can't hold 5th gear at all. It gear hunts awfully, finally prompted me to tow in D3 on the hwy. Only problem with that is that D3 gets me 3500rpms at 60mph.

Effectively limiting me to tow at 60mph max. Fine with me, but everyone, and I mean everyone, passes me for the 60 miles I'm on the hwy.

Our popup only weighs 1500lbs, and doesn't cause as much gear hunt, altough it still does it.

If you don't mind, just do your thing when towing and post back here your experience with gear selection.. as you know, you only get D or D3 as your choices. I've finally decided to go D3 to keep my tranny from frying from overheating caused by continual gear changing on its own.

I will certainly post my experiences back here!

Thanks.

I've been using my towing mirrors to extend my view when I'm pulling my RV. I bought it in Autozone and I forgot how much it cost, but I'm sure it's not over $50. The mirrors are secured with rubber strap so it never slips. Just make sure it is tight enough so it won't shake when you're driving on the highway.

Here's a photo when we drove thru Wyoming mountain last year and look at my mirrors.
