| What exactly makes the 03-05s different from the 06-08s? Do certain bolts not line up correctly, if so which ones? I would have no problem drilling holes to make my 05 boards fit on my new 08. I do not see how or why they would not bolt up across the entire first generation Honda Pilot. Anyone know the definite answer? |

| Interesting the info on collegehills honda site suggests different pns for the later years, but our site sponsor disagrees. |

Pretty much what I was getting at. So who knows if they are interchangeable? |

Our site sponsor gives you a choice for 2003-2005 or 2006-2008 when you select side steps. When you look at the p/n in the cart for each, it shows the 2003-2005 p/n under the code but the correct part number is shown under the under the "year:" notation. There are different p/ns for each. |

| I don't know why the side steps would be different. I know the running boards made a cosmetic change (integrated the front mudflap into the running board). I also know the bolt holes are exactly the same because I have the running boards that were bolted on my 05 currently bolted on my 08. I didn't have to drill or modify, or even adjust the brackets. Took them off as one piece and put them back on the new Pilot exactly the same way. |

I can't remember the exact details, but this topic has been around the block a few times. Try search.
Seems like the mounting brackets were different between the years. The new ones make for easier mounting, IIRC.
I have an 06 and I put on the new side steps. One of the mounting brackets was ONE piece, while the others were two. I THINK that the older ones had two piece brackets for all of them.
Can someone with old steps confirm this? I agree that I think the bolts likely line up the same, however, some people have claimed otherwise. |

The running boards/side steps we have are the long rubber ones. Not the flat black or chrome tube style ones.
Are these the ones you swapped over? If so I am going to try it, hopefully we pick up the 08, in a couple days before my eBay auction ends so I can test fit them :)
And as for searching this topic, I did prior to posting, and came up with NO definite reason WHY, which is what I am trying to figure out. |

| As mentioned earlier, older style running boards won't fit because of the redesign of the front fenders and splash guards. Here's the old one. See how it's separate from the splash guard. |

| Here's the new one, with the new style splash guard integrated in. |

| Here's another picture of the old board (left picture) and the old style splash guard. Because of the fender redesign, the old guards and boards won't cut it. |

Sure they will. I have the old style boards on my 08 and it looks exactly the same as it did on my 05. They didn't redesign the fender, they just redesigned the running boards. The newer boards require that you remove the factory splash guards because the new running boards have them integrated.
I don't know anything about one-piece vs two-piece brackets. My running boards have the older two piece brackets but they bolted right up to the holes in my 08 without any adjustments. |

| The OP said Side Steps but meant running boards. This is causing some confusion. I was speaking only about side steps in my previous post. |

| I don't want to hear one word about it being dirty :p The running boards look as good as new when they're clean. Can't tell they're 4 years older than the vehicle they're mounted on. |
