2008 EX-L Speaker Upgrade - HELP! - Click HERE for Original Thread
dragonah
I've been out of the stereo upgrade business since I was in high school (20 years ago) so I'm WAYYYY behind the times. What I want to know is this:

1. What size of speakers (diameter and depth) do I need for the doors?
2. Do I need component speakers for front and coaxial or triaxial for rear doors?
3. Can I replace the little tweeters in the dash with new ones without tearing out the dash or taking out the windshield?
4. What size of subwoofer do I need to replace the OEM sub?

I want to keep the OEM radio/CD player/DVD player so.........

5. Does it have pre-amp outs? If not, how to I wire an amp into the system.

Sorry for all of the questions, but my time is so limited these days that without your helpful answers I'll never get this done. Thanks!!!

you can find the answers to all of those questions with a quick search of the forums. but i can help you out too.

1. 6.5" diameter all around, i believe they are around 2" in depth.
2. you may use a component system for the front doors, but you'll have to disconnect the factory tweeters in the dash (do a search to find out how to do this). i have coaxials in front and rear doors and they work fine.
3. yes. the factory tweeters are removable.
4. 10". however, if you plan on keeping the factory sub location, you'll need a shallow-mount sub or a spacer, as there isn't much room in there.
5. not sure. a search might yield the answer.

good luck!

Hey rlapid - THANK YOU!

Sorry for the late reponse, but I live in Manhattan, KS and my subdivision got nailed by an F4 tornado - you may have seen it on CNN. Anyway....just getting done cleaning up - my house is pretty severely damaged but liveable - unlike my next door neighbors, who's house is leveled. The Pilot sustained NO damage, which is good, because it's the second one I've had in about 3 weeks. The first new one I bought got totalled by a HUGE hailstorm - 12 days old with 879 miles. :(

Wow! Very glad to hear you're alive after that powerful of a tornado.

You can install components in the front door without eliminating the dash tweeters. Someone on this forum installed the crossover on the door and used the existing speaker connection to supply the crossover.
