I just installed a Pioneer head unit with a 50x4 peak, 22x4 rms built-in amp. I saw that everyone here loves the Infinitis but those are outside my price range right now. So I thought the Kenwood 1682ie's looked decent and they were on sale at BestBuy - 2 pairs for $108 w/tax. Half price of the Infiniti's, but I was hoping they'd be a step up over the built-in speakers. I put in one of the Kenwood's so that I could compare. It really doesn't sound any better, and more noticeably, has significantly less bass than the OEM Alpines. I'm not expecting earth shattering bass from a 6.5", but I didn't expect a step _down_ from the factory speaker. Quite disappointing. I'm curious if anyone here has had similar experiences.
How do the Infiniti 6022s do with bass compared to the Alpines? I am going to have to ride without a subwoofer for awhile, so looking to get the best I can get for now. I think the Kenwoods are going back to the store. I'm not paying for speakers that sound worse than oem speakers. |

| i think you might be better off just saving up for the infinity's. better yet, you can find them on ebay for much less than they sell for in stores. i bought 2 pairs of 6012i's for about the same price you paid for your kenwoods. the infinity's are a huge improvement over stock, the bass is full and tight, and the highs are very crisp. good luck! |

Ok what happens in most aftermarket speakers is, they are wonderfull just for highs, but in bass they're not go0d at and that is when the subwoofer comesout.i would use the kenwoods and try to get a 4 channel amp and then you will hear the defference. but if you put an ampto the oem speakers you just gonna blow them up. |

| I think I'm sold now on the Infiniti's given the prices on Ebay and pricegrabber. I can stretch to that price I guess since the Kenwoods aren't staying. The only remaining question is 6022si or 6022i. I've read _tons_ of threads here, and there's definitely mixed opinions. Some people appeared to have a lot of problems with installing the 6012i/6022i in the front, while others say they dropped right in. Not sure which I should go with on the front...? |

| My question is did you ever listen to the Pioneer with the old speakers? If not, I would check the settings on your new HU. There is really no way any aftermarket speaker getting more power should have less bass then the stock speakers. |

to be honest, the 6012i's were NOT a drop-in installation for me. however, it wasn't difficult at all. i used 4 speaker harness adapters from best buy (i think they were around $10/pair). after removing the door panel and stock speakers, i had to modify the white baskets to accommodate the new speakers. all i had to do was cut the 3 small tabs that stick out from the ring of the baskets, and cut a little from the bottom side of the basket to provide more room for the new speakers' connectors. after that, i just hooked the basket up to the speaker using the adapter rings (included with speakers), connected the speaker harness, and they fit right into the door.
i just found out that the 6012i has been discontinued, and i believe they have been replaced by the 6022i or something like that. either way, i'm sure you'll find these speakers are great and worth the the extra work to install them. |

If you go to sonicelectronix.com you will find the 6022i for only $69.99 a pair i and the components 6020cs for $119.99 a pair. think that is a good deal right there. And because they are located in LA there shipping only takes 2 to 3 days max. |

| I took the Kenwoods back to Best Buy, told them about the online price for the Infinity 6022i's, and they dropped their price from $109 to $79.99 for me! That's a great deal from a retail store. So I've got them in the back and will install them this week. Hoping the 6022i's will fit okay in the front door... |

Yep, I've got some pics from my headunit install as well that I will post soon. I got a Pioneer Premier DEH-P790BT unit with built-in Bluetooth and iPod (not just "-ready", it actually worked out the box) for $260 from J&R. I think it is last year's model or something silly like that so it's marked down. Great deal to get the BT & iPod totally included. The BT works very good and the iPod controls are also quite nice.
I would have struggled MUCH more if it hadn't been for all the advice/pictures/notes from everyone here. THANK YOU to everyone who has shared their knowledge!!!!! |
