I'm curious how the USB capability works. It sounds neat, since you can have music files that are accessible without connecting an I-Pod, if I understand it correctly.
Has anyone played music off of a USB flashdrive in the new Pilot? |

It one of the best new features. I put about 5,000 .mp3s on a 16GB Thumb drive and plugged it in. The folders/songs show up on the NAV screen. Just as a CD would. Slicker than sh..... |

Cool! I'm going to start loading a flashdrive. My Pilot was scheduled to be built yesterday for delivery in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to trying it myself!
Thanks for the replies! |

| I use a flash, too (waiting for my hubby to upgrade to an iPhone so I can have his touch iPod). And yes, it works great! The interface is even better than we were expecting. |

What about the hands-free bluetooth?
I've ordered my Toruing, but it won't be in until next month. I hooked up my phone to the car at the dealer, but it seemed a bit clumsy. Sometimes I'd tell it to dial a number, and nothing would happen.
Also, do you have to pair the phone everytime you get into the car, or do you just do it the first time?
Thanks |

| The Bluetooth is great, but I've had a little learning curve with it. First, you do not have to pair every time - just once and it's done. And I believe you can pair two phones. I'm guessing you had problems in the dealership b/c you have to remember to push the Bluetooth button every time you reply. So if you say "call", it will reply "what number" (or something like that). I have found myself replying with the number and I forget to hit the Bluetooth button again before doing so. Then nothing happens. My biggest limitation is that I cannot import my phonebook from my phone - I so wish I could. And I have a new phone (the Verizon Alias). But once I get numbers programmed into the phonebook in the Pilot it will be slick. I love when the phone rings and the radio quiets and the car actually rings, too - no more trying to find my phone in my purse (or worse, not hearing it). |

I believe you can pair 6 phones! And I'm a little disappointed in the voice activation only phone system. It would be nice to have a keypad as well. Especially since you can't import phonebooks from any Verizon phone. I have the RAZR, and I can import the phonebook into my Mercedes systems. but not Honda's. So it's not the phone's abilities, but Honda's |

Thanks for your post.
I was having a bit of trouble remembering to push the button everytime I talked, so that might have been part of the problem. I'm sure that I'll get used to it after awhile and not even realize I'm doing it.
So when I program numbers into the car, will I be able to just say "Call",*pause* "John",*pause* "Dial", and it will call "John"? ("pause" meaning I release/press the button.)
What about saying "Call John",*pause* "Dial"? Or "Call John Dial"?
And I guess I'll need to have my cell phone in the car in order to use the car phone, but how does it know the phone is there? On my cell, Samsung a950, the "Discoverable mode"only lasts for 1 minute. Is that only needed for the initial pairing, and the phone will be picked up automatically every other time I get in the car? Or can I get another cell phone that can be placed in "discoverable mode" permanently?
Thanks |

I plugged a 4 GB flash drive in my PC. Navigated to my itunes folder and downloaded about 20 albums.
I went to my '09 Pilot (Tourning) and plugged the drive into the USB port in the center glovebox. I pushed the AUX button twice on the dash (first push is for CD/DVD or something like that) and it started playing!
Couldn't be easier to use. I'll populate a smaller (excess) flash for the wife with some of the music that she likes. That way whenever she's got my truck she can also be musically satisfied!
I've got to figure out how to better label the directories so I find things easier with the on-screen viewer but otherwise it's fantastic!

Yes, you can say "Call John" and it will dial. And yes, you will need to have your phone in the car. Through the magic of Bluetooth it will know it's there. You will only need to put your phone in discovery mode the first time and a minute will take care of it. Sounds like your phone should work fine (I have a Samsung, too - the Alias). You can go on Honda's website to find out exactly which features of your phone are compatible (I did, and knew beforehand that my phonebook would not import).
And to TomD - good to know about the Verizon compatibilty issues. Guess I just have to keep wishing about my phonebook. I, too, wish there were some keypad - would come in handy to enter extensions after I have dialed a place - find myself looking for my phone to do that. |

Love the iPod integration! Wish there was an eaiser way to search for artist than turing the wheel.. especailly if you are looking for Stevie Ray Vaughn... you need to roll through A-S
Also one issue is that when I am listening to my iPod and the kids want XM in the rear, i cant use the iPod. This was an issue on a long trip from San Diego to Utah |

For those that have used the USB functionality with a flash drive - when you plugged your drive into the cable, did it light up?
When I plug in my 4GB SanDisk Micro Cruzer stick, the drive doesn't light up and the radio displays the messages "USB No Data" which is the same thing that it displayed without the drive plugged in.
Thanks! |

Yes, it did "light up" after I plugged it in.
Did you make sure that the stick is wiped of any installed software and that all you have on it are folders containing the .mp3s?
good luck |

My drive doesn't light up at all. It was a fresh from the package drive that did have some pre-installed software on it. I formatted the drive and then moved my files to it. The root level only contains a set of directories. I'm using WMA files which the manual says are supported. I verified that the drive works on my PC after it didn't work in the Pilot and then I tried a couple of other drives that I have which don't have music on them - none of them seem to light up.
Thanks - looks like one more thing that I need to add to the list that my dealer needs to fix. |
