GPS Software Updates Poll - Click HERE for Original Thread

Have you done a software update. How frequently do you think is necessary?

With the system in my Toyota the copyright on the map software is one year earlier than the copyright on the DVD media. At that rate, any new road will take at least 2 years to appear in the system. I'll upgrade the system in October or November, just to see if the new area in my neighborhood is mapped yet.

When I upgraded last October, it had been less than 2 years since the road was put in, but this time, it'll be well over two years.

I've never done an update on a factory NAV, but then I don't have a very good track record for keeping a vehicle that long. :D

I prefer aftermarket GPS (Garmin) as I use it in my cars and motorcycles. If the features of the available GPS do not change that much, I will usually update the mapping software ever couple years. If there are significant improvements in the GPS (that are clearly good for me), I may buy a new GPS, which will most generally always come with the latest mapping software. GPS software (free stuff), I update each time it comes available.

YMMV

I update the GPS software everytime a new version comes out. I've had the GPS (Garmin Zumo 550) for about 1 1/2 years now and have not yet updated the actual mapping software. I may do it soon though just to stay current.

I also update Mapsource everytime an update comes out.
