I am going to be going on a bit of a shopping spree for my Pilot soon, (tow package, cargo cover, step bars...hondacuraworld here I come!!!) and I am really struggling on what to do for the step bar and Westin light bar....do I go chrome or black?
I have an '07, and it is Nimbus Grey. I had defaulted to black given the dark color, and all of the black bumper covers, but my wife convinced me to look at chrome...
She successfully swayed me to chrome, but now that I am totaling everything up, the more expensive chrome is straining my budget :-(
I could go either way on the look, so my main focus is longevity and durability... From what I can tell (at least for the Westin bar) the chrome is stainless steel, vs. mild steel for the black (I am assuming stainless is better.) Does anybody know, would the same be true for the OEM step bars?
Does anybody have any pros/cons they can throw out that I can take into consideration for my decision? As much as it stinks to get the budget strained by chrome, if there is a definite benefit I am willing to go that route.
I live in the Pacific Northwest, so I have to deal with my share of sanded/graveled roads in the winter time...I am not sure if they really ever use salt, I certainly don't see rusted out rigs driving around the way I did when I lived back East! |

| I installed the OEM black side steps on our NBP '06 Pilot a couple of years ago. It's been through 3 Chicago winters with lots of sand and salt. They still look as good as new. I personally like the sporty subtle look of the black steps. |
