What is the easiest way to tap into the back-up light wiring system ? Is there a connection at factory wiring harness connector ?

Thanks

There is no connection at the harness, so depending on what you need to do with that wire, there are probably a couple ways to approach it.

The most common application I know of is the solenoid to prevent trailer surge brakes from engaging in reverse. Is this what you need? It's a pin that gets shoved in the way of the surge brake actuator so when you back up the surge brakes don't try to stop the trailer. If that's what you need to do, see if you can find a current rating for that solenoid. I think Scotch-Lok connectors are rated the same as the wire gauge they are used to connect, so as long as the wire for the reverse lights is enough to support the light and the solenoid, you can just tap into that wire with a Scotch-Lok connector.

If that solenoid needs more power than the wire can handle, you may need to tap into a fuse somewhere, but that doesn't seem very likely.

Just my semi-educated guess. Maybe someone will chime in here with some other process.

Hope that helps...

I just want to wire in a back up detection device. The device just needs to kow when the car is in reverse. BY the way, this is an 07 Pilot.

Thanks

I would think the only way to tie into it would be to use a Scotch-Lok connector on the wire that feeds the reverse lights. There may be some other way to do it, but I don't know what it is. Maybe someone will chime in here with another solution, but I'm guessing it will come down to a wire splice.

Schematics would be nice so you can tell what color wire you need to find and where it's routed. Then you can splice in the right wire in the easiest location instead of trying to figure it out by taking things apart and probing wires. I don't know where schematics may be found. You might try using the Search feature of the web site or do a Google search for it.

Good luck. When you get it, please come back and let us know how you did it...
