Just bought a new 2008 Pilot 2 days ago (they're practically giving these away to make room for the '09's :-) )
Anyway, doesn't take long to realize the stock speakers are crap. Looking at previous threads on door panel removal, I see pics that really don't seem to match my door panel. The '08 door panel seems to have one screw underneath the arm rest, but I see no small cover plate to pry off with the other 2 screws. Am I just overlooking it, or does the '08 door panel removal differ slightly?
Any help is appreciated! And yes, I've been doing forum searches :D |

| Oh never mind, I'm an idiot - I was mis-interpreting one of the pics posted earlier. Think I figured it out :-) |

We picked up an 08 right at a month ago ourselves. SO what are you dropping in for speakers? |

Picked up a pair of the Infinity Reference for the front (they're a bit shallower so easier to fit in the cutout)
Put some 6.75" Kappas in the rear doors. Fitting those was a pain, but I finally got them in.
Someone said the job was so easy a 12 year old could do it, but I bet your door panels would never look the same after said 12 year old tried to take them off :-)
I only managed to break one linkage for the door lock on one of the rear doors - but carefully holding it in place while putting the door panel back on has it working fine again. Although it took 3 attempts to get it back on right.
Pretty easy though - still undecided about replacing the factory sub. Although any 10" shallow mount sub should be fine from what I've read. |

Infinity - Can't go wrong with those. Loved them in a high performing system I had years ago.
How's the sound with the changes made so far?
Any concerns on the ANC system? (I think I'm having an issue on mine where it emits an ultra low hum with the AC on at idle...about to take it in to check.) I've never heard or read on any probs with the ANC and upgraded speakers but it's just one of those new things I haven't dealt with in audio before.
For sub: Only thing I've noted on its performance is that it sounds muddy much of the time. But I'm not sure if that would be more of the speaker or the built in pretuned crossover. Let me know if you make a switch. I'd be interested to know how much it tightens up. |

Huge difference changing out just the 6.5" speakers. Highs are nice and crisp, good bass, etc. I'd say it's about a 300% improvement over the crappy 30w alpines they put in there to start with.
Haven't had any issues with the ANC. As for the sub - yeah I'm not sure directly replacing it would help if the factory crossover is junk. If anybody has done it and has an opinion let us know :-) But for $100 or so for a new sub, I might wind up just giving it a shot. It is pretty muddy with the factory one, I can't imagine I could make things worse by upgrading to something that at least uses better materials in its construction :D |
