Newbie here, and I just purchased a CPO 2004 Pilot EX-L with nav. Im thrilled with the vehicle but doing research noticed the service bulletin/recall on the auto trannys. I want to make sure this has been taken care of and noticed the Honda bulletins say to center punch the firewall over the vin when completed. My pilot has 44k and no center punch over the VIN. I showed the vehicle to a friend who is an Acura tech and said he did not notice the extra lines for the jet kit and that the center punch on the VIN is rarely done. How can I check this to make sure the work has been completed? The vehicle was a one owner Lease vehicle before hand and I do not have any service history. Thanks for any help or guidance you can provide.

Not all 2004's needed to have the recall done. The later ones had the jetting corrected internally. If it was bought from a dealer, all the recalls should have been done. If you use the owner link on honda.com, it will show you if you have any outstanding recalls, or have your friend run the VIN and he will be able to tell you if ther recall applies/was done.

Good information thanks. My vin is a high end number so Im guessing its a late 2004. I will check with the dealership though.

Definitely call Honda with you VIN to be sure but you're probably fine. IIRC, the only 2004 Pilots affected were those built before January 2004. Your build date should be on a sticker inside your driver's door.
EDIT: Found it:

As a Honda Employee, I have the details. The recall affects all 2003 Pilots, and 2004 Pilots up to VIN# 546877 ( last six). If your pilot vin# ends in a # less than this and is an 04, it is affected. ...

The VIN range and links to other posts about the recall is in this thread:
http://www.hondapilot.org/forums/sh...=&threadid=8699
To quote john802 from that thread "On the 2004 model year, the VIN# ranges from 2HKYF18_ _ 4H500001 thru 2HKYF18_ _ 4H546877."
If your vehicle falls in the VIN range and you still have a white bolt as pictured below, the recall was NOT done. |

Great info guys thanks, my vin is 574642 so it appears it is fine. I will do some searching but does anyone know what the honda factory fix was? Updated Tranny? ECU for different shift points? just curious. Thanks again!!!

The fix was an oil jet kit that replaced that white bolt, and squirted fluid onto a gear to keep it within proper operating temps.
