Plenty of online instructions on doing the hitch harness install, but I saw someone asking for pics the other day of the install process. I just got my harness yesterday and installed it last night now that my U-haul hitch is installed.
So for anybody that's interested, here's the hitch harness installation with pics.

Here we are with the cargo cover moved back and the storage compartment lid
has been removed:

First, we pull the weather stripping back along the bottom of the cargo area
and then pop off the trim panel:

Pop off those pesky grommets on the top and underneath the car body - you can
see the hole on the bottom through the top hole - this is where you will route
the harness:

Pull back the storage compartment plastic at the edge and see the vehicle harness
hiding underneath:

Cut that clip off the wire harness (be very careful not to cut the vehicle harness!):

The mess of tools at this point :-) Digital calipers are there only because
I'm anal :-)

Now we tape the template in place:

Once you score the plastic around the template, you remove the template, drill
your holes and then cut out the plastic using a utility knife. (not sure why
you need to drill these - I suppose just to make cutting the corners easier.
However, if you're good with a utility knife, that step is not strictly needed)

Now we deal with the mounting bracket - taping the squishy tape on the bits
that the install instructions tell us to :-)

Attach the ziptie with the clip onto the wiring harness at the green tape spot
and attach the red clips to the other plugs:

Now we slide the converter on the mounting bracket:

And plug the harness into it as indicated in the instructions:

Move the plastic back and shove that sucker in there and bolt it in place -
you'll notice I had yet to remove a piece of plastic at the top that I didn't
figure out until the cover needed to be put in place :-) Also at this stage
you route the 4 pin connector through the holes to the bottom of the vehicle
and get those rubber grommet seals in place securely:

After cutting off the last bit of excess plastic, we slide the cover in place:

Put the weatherstripping back in place and then replace the trim:

Ziptie the harness in place as you see fit - personally I have the U-haul hitch
so I couldn't use the small mounting bracket they provide with the harness to
attach to the OEM hitch. Zipties work fine :-)

Only thing left to do is plop the 20 amp breaker into the breaker box under
the hood and you're done. |

Slanky,
Great write up, thanks!
I was looking at the install sheets from H & A for the harness as I need to install a complete tow package on my (new to us) Pilot. I came across the following harness from etrailer.com. Their video for the Pilot install seems to follow your write up as well.
I'm confused as to what the converter does?
Also, I assume the 20 amp breaker just enables/powers the vehicle harness
that was hiding underneath the storage compartment?
Any comments on going from the 4 pin to at 7 pin connector? My pop-up camper using a 7 pin (round) connector. I planned on getting a 4 pole to 7 pole adaptor . Any possible issues there?
I do realize I need to make my battery connection and brake controller connection outside the harness topic covered here.
Thanks!
