Updated Navigation DVD - Click HERE for Original Thread

Greetings:

Does anyone know of a place where you can obtain an updated Navigation DVD for a 2006 Honda Pilot at a reasonable cost?

I checked at Alpine's site and they want nearly $200. For the newest version. Seems a little high to me.

TIA,
Jeff

Thanks for your replies. $185 for an updated DVD disc seems a bit steep. Is someone trying to catch up with Forbes 500 leader Bill Gates? You can purchase a new portable navigation system for less than the cost of a DVD update. Maybe this is like inkjet printers where the company will practically give you the printer and then charge $50 for a cartridge.

Yikes. It comes with Vaseline or Vicks Vapo Rub.:D

Problem is that they don't practically give you the GPS for free. My next car won't have an OEM GPS. I'll add an aftermarket unit.

I originally thought that the navigation option would add value to my 2006 Pilot should I try and sell it before the end of my lease. As it turns out I was very wrong. Regardless, I found that I used the navigation FAR MORE than I thought I would. It certainly made driving more comfortable and less tense in knowing how far the next exit was, etc..

Fortunately or Unfortunately depending on how you look at it, I leased my Pilot fully loaded with Navi. I truly love my Pilot and all the utility and comfort it brings as being our main "family car". Problem is our children are at the point of having their own vehicle or off to college.

Despite the fact that I have a Garmin also, I am currently weighing some options of turning in our Pilot for a 2009 Ridgeline WITH Navi. I use a Ford F150 in my lake business and would like to combine my Pilot and F150 into one vehicle. The Ridgeline seems like the ideal vehicle. The additional price for stock Navi however is very high as you mentioned. I do like having the radio touch screen controls as well as having the back up camera.

Nothing like champaign tastes on a BEER budget :7: :7:

Having looked at the aftermarket GPS units, I found the Kenwood Excelon DNX8120 as the best rated one currently.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Prod...3DNX8120&tp=144

But the review still have a so and so rating on the menu and features within. Sure it will get better over time.

Price is still way too expensive at $1600.

This will probably drive the OEM units down in price since there's competition.

The lower aftermarket in-dash units pricing will pressure the OEM markets.

I really like the GPS units in the vehicles.

Having integration is best with backup camera and no special installation with aftermarket stuff.

My concerns are that what happens if your vehicle GPS maps updates stop and what happens if the unit breaks way after warranty.

Honda doesn't have any replacement units forever???

Then it will be a black double DIN display I guess. :(

Is that aftermarket time anyways??

Those DVDs will only work in model years 2006 and newer. You can easily tell if it's compatible by the color of your DVD. If your disc is black (2003 - 2005) this DVD will not work. If your DVD is white (2006 ->) it should work fine.

You can learn more about this in the attached TSB. It's not totally up to date since it doesn't cover this version of the disc but it's still pretty current.

Is there any special process for updating the Navigation DVD? I have the new 4.62 version disc, but I am getting a disc error when I turn on the Pilot. Is there a diagnostic process that I need to complete?

What is the exact error message you're getting? It just might be helpful for others here to help out!

Good luck!
Larry.
