| or just normal? I bought my Pilot in November and it scratches so easily! I'm starting to wonder if it was a bad paint job! You rub your clothes on it the wrong way and it scratches. OR is it just normal? |

| Paint does seem a bit thin on my 2005. Several folks on here have said the Honda paint is no worse or better than other cars of similar cost. |

| It's Black Cherry, and I realize because it's dark, I'm going to see the faults more on it, but the littlest things scratch it. My wedding band has scratched it. |

Metal will ALWAYS scratch paint.
New paint shows scratches worse because it has vet to get the fine scratches from normal wear, washing and even waxing.
And as you noted darker colors show scratches much worse than lighter colors. |

| To me, it seems as if the clearcoat Honda uses on their newer vehicles is a bit softer than they've used in the past. I've got quite a bit of light scratches on my Pilot from tree and bush branches, and also coming from plastic items. The dark color makes them appear much more easily. On both mine and my wife's car, there are also lots of scratches behind the door handles from fingernails and such. There's probably not much you can do except for being extra careful, especially when clearing snow and ice from the car. |

All of my dark (especially black) cars have shown scratches EASILY. This includes several car makers.
I have found that for the very light scratches, the various scratch removers actually work pretty well, especially on things like fingernails around the door handles. Or when you walk by with a zipper. Or if after you wash your car and then try to dry it. I didn't use the scratch removers too often, though, because they remove a little clearcoat in order to work. |

My Amazon green '06 Pilot has a bad scratch also.
I guess their clear coat is way too thin.
Same result from my past '03 MDX. The paint scratches easily. |

What were the colors of the cars you owned, prior to the Pilot?
Just trying to understand your comments, in the context of whether or not you have had black or green cars before.
Similar, if you had issues with handling, it would help us understand your comments better if your last car was a Corvette vs. another SUV.
Maybe -- just maybe -- the paint quality is actually OK but you aren't used to having a black car. (I know these comments in print form look like I'm being dismissive, but I'm not, but I am just trying to see if I can help you put a reasonable expectation around black/dark paint if you haven't lived with it before). |
