I'm confuseded (again) - Click HERE for Original Thread

If your book suddenly starts selling really well just because you are a Presidential candidate, is that not a "Windfall Profit"?

If you grew up in your Grandmothers humble/small 2 bedroom apartment, would you not spend a small portion of the $4 million in windfall profits from your book to buy her a nicer place?

If you lived with your Mother and Grandparents while your mother was in school (pursuing a PhD) would you not be part of their household and be ineligible for food stamps?

I am so confused!

I have not read his books, so this is based only on excerpts and quotations posted on line and discussed in the media.

That said, it does seem he has an inner, or almost subconscious disdain for her. :4:

Of course it seems she is a person who both expects and respects hard work and common sense.

Hmmm, makes you kind of think! :headshak:  :runaway:

Why?

It would deprive us of your insightful wit.

Not appreciated by who? But this is is a "general, off topic" thread and this discussion is certainly general and "off topic". Perhaps you are one of those that believes in the restricting of general opinions from members of our "family". I still believe freedom of expression and believe if one disagrees they should simply not contribute.

It's my understanding that there were many complaints by members about the argumentative tone of so many similar political threads. I don't see this as an issue of freedom of speech since there is no government interference in that right here, simply the freedom and responsibility of members and management to express their preferences as to what type and manner of discussions should be encouraged and discouraged here on this privately owned website. I obviously enjoyed many discussions and humor in the Current Events forum, but I also respect the rights and responsibility of other contributing members and moderators to influence the quality and character of interaction here. Makes my life a lot easier anyway. No one is restricting you from starting your own website to promote whatever type of discussion you would like to promote.

Who knows, I might even stop by for a good laugh! :7:

Really?

would it not be the responsibility of members to express their desires to the management, and the responsibility of the management to take action?

Seems you are a little "overactive" on the topic of right and wrong topics.

Hmmmm, maybe you need to start a "Community Watch" program here?
I have a blinking yellow light you can use.
Roger
I'm gonna have to find a decent guns and politics site. All my "regular" forums have shut down off topic stuff on the matters, bummer!!!!!!!:) :2: :4:

Just trying to be respectful of what colorider has said about the desires and complaints of the members here.

It seems the answer is NO. Wasn't a poll removed by the "management" where members could express their opinions to reopen the "current events" section.

No it was not. (At least not as I read it)

Yep. It is always a good idea to pull up next to some one going over the speed limit and honk, to let them know!

Then let me say it again: I was satisfied by colorider's explanation that many members had complained and managemt had acted accordingly.

If the internet were a democracy, this would be true. But it's not, and this is a wild misconception.

The internet, when it pertains to any discussion forum, is an oligarchy, with all topical content and boundaries enforced and controlled by the management of said site.

The reason for this whole thing I can tell you. It's not that people don't want to watch the train wreck that these threads become, it's that people that you really enjoy talking with about car stuff, or whatever, you find out that in the end, you don't like them in the least. And in relation to that, on message boards, ignorance can sometimes be bliss.

There is a place for this, though......take a look over at http://www.carforummisfits.com/forums/index.php , with an active political discussion section.

:werd: :32:

It seems this thread was started expressly to start this kind of argument and it has achieved that purpose (intended or not). There is a freedom of speech but in that we must respect the overall purpose of this forum (HONDA PILOT remember?). While certainly there will be occaision for thread drift. :22: It has become rediculous.

And this solved the problem? Was this really necessary or achieve anything?

I disagree and cannot or will not be silent/not contribute any longer. That is not the way this country was founded. So if one disagrees with you, we should just not speak up?

I don't know what it will take but I would love to see this forum return to what it used to be, a fun place. Many have commented on how the continue to come here even though they no longer have a Pilot. I have always loved the family atmosphere here and Lord knows it has helped when I was down and needed something to cheer me up and give me a chuckle, it pulled me through some dark times. But lately threads like this have become an embarrisment when I consider what new members or visitors see.

I agree with you Tim, I was just parsing his sentence to show that he was acting in the role of the management, rather then as the participant that he is.

I gladly (well not so gladly, but grudgingly) slow down for the guys with the red and blue lights.

As for Robrecht, he (in that particular post) was acting a little like a guy with a blinky yellow light purchased at Walmart.:D
N_Jay
Funny thing.

It probably would have ended after Tim's cute picture if not for the posts of the "Modulators" Robrecht and PT.

Hmmm, makes you kind of think! :headshak:  :runaway:

I think it would not have gotten started if you and your ilk would have complied with the moderator's request. As usual, never accept responsibility for your actions.

Lets see;

Your post was the first completely off topic.

Your post was the first that was intentionally insulting.

And somehow it is MY fault.

I apologize profusely for posting anything that has the power to take over your mind and cause such results.

I am truly sorry you are so afflicted.

Here's where I disagree with you. We're a family brought together by our ownership of the Pilot. Not like a family that is related by blood but a family non the less. As in any family there my be discussions and disagreements but we are still brought together by that common bond. If you don't want to discuss something then don't join in........ just don't ban the subject, that's censorship.......be your own censor, just dont participate!

It was the topic of your post that went against the moderator's request. Like most right wing law and order pukes you want everyone to be held accountable for following the rules but yourself.

Family? What's your partner been smoking?

Can you explain in any way how your post helped rectify the issue?

Can you explain in any way how your post did not do that same?

Can you explain in any way how your post did not further violate the rules of proper posting? (1-Off topic, 2-insulting, etc.)

The subject of censorship goes back to this site being owned and controlled by a person. This site is FREE for posting members, the least we can do is to conduct ourselves in the manner of which we are requested. And, of course, the same people have to poke the bear with a fork in defiance to any kind of authority that exists here.

I understand that for many of you in your private lives, you enjoy unlimited autonomy in your homes, in your business, and feel empowered to do so here. Doesn't work that way. I don't own this site, I advertise here and assist where I'm needed....one of those areas that needed assistance is moderation, and I stepped up to the plate.

Now to be honest with you, I've tried to lock this thread, and others, and for some reason my mod powers aren't there to be able to do it.....something wasn't adjusted right. Therefore, if I have to call someone out personally in a thread to dissuade their feelings of autocratic political keyboard machismo, then so be it.

Anyone that wishes to discuss this by email or phone knows full well how to reach me. To some, this is a place to enjoy friendship and comraderie, to glean information on their vehicles, and to get a deal or two. For others, it is a political platform thinly veiled around a vehicle.

Since I can't lock this thread, I'm going to leave it open and ask for the final say here. If any of the political pundits that populate this thread wish to post in this thread after my post, rest assured that your current rights to post and discuss things here will shortly be savagely curtailed.

I am available by telephone, email, or PM to discuss.

Tim, well said. I am still trying to sort out why some of your options are not yet available and I have asked Daniel for assistance in that area.

I'm on an extended vacation and only have limited access to the internet, but will try to check in when possible.

Today we catch the ferry in Bellingham WA, arriving in Haines AK on Monday. If anyone sees a silver CR-V wandering around Alaska and/or Canada over the next 4 weeks, wave to us!!! :awais: :awais: :awais:
