| I just bought a Jensen power inverter to run my laptop on the road. I was checking it out and found that the radio stayed on for 5 or 10 seconds after taking the key out. It only does this when using the dash outlet. I searched here and found that is a common problem when things are left plugged in. Has anyone seen any other problems caused by inverters? I just wanted to make sure there haven't been any electrical problems caused by using them. Thanks! |

| I use them all the time and other than occasionally causing the accessories to stay on, I have no other problem. |

| Yep...learned about that "feature" on my Accord. Strange...but never had any problems. Sure did freak me out the first week it happened though. |

That "feature" can cost you a dead battery.
If you inverter does that, I would unplug it when out of the car. |

The delayed shutoff of the radio may be due to the residual power in the inverter being backfed into the radio until all the power is drained from the inverter. Most of the time, the front power plug is on the same circuit as the switched power for the radio. As for draining the battery, unless the power outlet is hot all the time, it won't continue to drain when the key is off. Just a possible explanation...... |

I have seen very small accessories like cell phone chargers that keep the power on indefinitely.
Unless you are going to pay attention each and every time to make sure it goes off, I would rather be safe than sorry. |

| The total power/current draw form all the outlets in use at any one time should not exceed 120W/10A. A typical laptop draws about 75W. |

So 2 laptops in use at the same time from different outlets would have what effect? |

I have used a laptop, a DVD player and a 13" TV all at the same time with no problem. |

Any idea what the total wattage on those is/was?
Just wondering if any damage can be caused by over-watting (is that a word?)... |

If it's designed right a fuse blows.
I trust Honda to design right. |

It depends. If they're both turned off and just being charged, it's probably not a problem. (Read the nameplate on your chargers to get an idea of the power draw. The nameplate on the bottom of the laptop might also have some power info.) But if they're both being used, each charger has to draw enough power to charge the battery and power the laptop. If both are running something power-intensive (like playing DVDs) I can see where it would be a problem. Impossible to say, for sure. Of course, that's why we have fuses. |

Just remember "A $1000 TV will sacrifice itself to save a 10 cent fuse." :p |
