I'm reading post after post about runnin the vehicle until the coolin fan kicks in..
some say to hold down accelerator at 3k rpm's for a few min's and so on and on...
manaul says nothing about this.. it does say a few days of normal drivin will recalibrate it for you..
what am I missin here?

p.s. IT ONLY mentions manual recalibration if you have emissions testing and dont' have the time to allow for a "few days" drivin which would normally re calibrate it.. |

A few have reported that their cars run better or get better mileage after doing the idle lean procedure and since it costs nothing (except gas) people are going to try it. I agree it's unnecessary.
The run engine at 3K thing is just to accelerate the procedure so you don't stand around so long waiting for the fans to kick in. There's nothing special about the fans except that the procedure needs to ensure that engine is at full operating temperature and the fan kick-in is a sure sign of this.
IOW, drivers do all sorts of things when the OM says otherwise.
