Saw this on ebay and decided to buy it, $50 shipped, switched out the brain and the transponders from the extra key, got the dealer to cut it for $5 and voila, switchblade key for my '06 Pilot. Enjoy the pictures.

The brain (the three buttons) is very easy to swap out because it's one unit and is not tied down to anything, the hard part is taking out the transponder which is glue down so I had to pretty much tear apart a little compartment that houses the transponder, but it doens't damage the outside or make the key un-usable. The aftermarket comes with the transponder & brain which has the same FCC frequence as the Pilot so technically you can program the after market key to work with the Pilot but I didn't feel like doing all that (laziness & some have problems so I didn't try). It also has a little compartment to house the transponder. Other people have cut out the valet key and take out the transponder, I didn't try that since I didn't have the tool nor the time, I was too excited to swap it out.

The quality, of course, is not as good as an Acura switchblade, the surface is smooth but it doesn't have that texture feel like the Pilot key but it's pretty solid and doesn't feel flimpsy at all. I give it 8 out of 10.

Nice! Is that about the same size as the standard key/fob unit? Looks maybe just a little bigger but having the key store away probably makes up for it when you put it away.

I didn't take a side by side picture, should have, but I found this, hope it helps. Look at the bottom right-hand corner of the OEM Honda key, that's where the transponder is.

That is sweet. Could you have programmed it if you didn't switch out the transponder from you old unit?

Yes, you can program the switchblade key, the seller included the instruction in the package. the switchblade key itself comes with the brain (3 buttons unit) and the transponder so you don't have to take the transponder from another key. I've read that you can only program 3 keys for your Honda so if you program this switchblade, it will clear out one of your existing keys and when you program this you need all of your keys with you in the car during the program. I didn't bother with because I don't want to mess up the other keys and I only have one car so if I mess something up and the car won't start I can't go to work...:D

Yup, that's where I got my key. The seller is very quick with answering any questions and shipping is relatively fast considering it's from Taiwan.

I am going to order one for my 05. Although as retarded as I am, I will take it to the dealership so it won't screw up the existing keys. Let the pros handle that.

The dealership can program the key for you but my dealer quoted me $90 just for the programming with no guarantee that it will work.

Just saw these on eBay and came here looking for feedback...might have to bid on one and give it a try.

how hard to take off the transponder from the old key and transfer it into the new switchblade key. im confused about the transponder and compartment. can you please post some more pictures inside the key of the switchblade. or if you have time, can you post a simple DIY.

correct me if im wrong:

key cutting = dealership
transponder = lock/unlock doors - its transferable
immobilzer = ??? = does the dealer have to program it?

thanks in advance

Can our keys be cut at a locksmith instead of the $tealer?

Found another switchblade key without the innards, just the case and the key. I just purchased it and I'll let everyone know how it looks when I get it. If you just want the case without the innards the link is below and it's half the price:

wow, thats what im looking for. our pilot key is just too long (it can be deadly also).

please correct me if im wrong, just removed/install the remote module and the small transponder to the new switchblade housing... then cutting at stearlership.

the small transponder (immobilizer chip) should be in the small compartment of the switchblade housing or else the car wont start?

obviously, i dont have to reprogram the remote bec im just transferring it.

im about to buy this at ebay and needed some more feedback.

thanks in adnace

gman, ^ yeah, I'm hoping it's just that easy, swapping out the components and having the dealer cut the key. I'm just wondering if the dealer is the only one that can cut the key or can any locksmith do it as well.
sgt_gman2005
cutting the key is cheap at the stealership. i called yesterday and its around $10+tax.

the immobilizer chip is the one that im worried about. imagine getting stock and not be able to start your car bec i tampered my immobilzer thingy...

hopefully, transfering wont be a problem...

anymore feedbacks???

Hello sgt_gman2005,

You're right. If you're buying that shell only, all you do is transferring the immobolizer & the transponder from your existing key to the new key. The shell that I bought it has a little compartment for the transponder on the upper-left corner and it fits perfectly. I have had the keys for about two weeks now and I couldn't be happier. You won't have to do any programming since all you're doing is transferring the immobolizer which is already programmed to the new shell.

Sorry, I don't have a DIY. I have found this picture, hope it helps you.

Looks like a nice mod. Thanks wiggindude. I do have one question about the orginal key. I see that you have to remove the screw, but there is a clip where the key ring slot is. Does that clip come off or did you have to break it? I hate to have to destroy one of the orginal keys.

That clip comes off pretty easily. After removing the scew, lift it off then pull it toward the key itself and it should comes off with no problems, you won't break anything, don't worry about it.

Yup, take the key to the dealer and give them your VIN number so they can cut the key for you. Don't worry about not being able to start your car since you're taking the factory immobolizer & transponder and moving it to a new shell.

I've read that people have been having issues with the key not fitting right. Have you encountered any issues? Any other issues in general with key?

How does it work out for you?

Ya know what, I was right in the middle of a move and the blank is buried amongst some crap that I need to sort out yet. I'll update everyone once I find the darned thing and have the transmitter moved over to the new one.
wiggindude
I have been pretty happy with mine, have been using it for a few months and I couldn't be happier, working flawlessly still.

I purchased one without the electronics and just moved them over from my Honda key. I had to do a little trimming to make it fit, but that was because the switchkey case wasn't well made at the factory.

Just be careful when you first take it apart to install the electronics. As soon as I removed the top part of the case, the spring that causes the key to extend went flying. I found the spring and figured out how everything went back together.

I've also seen a Honda Pilot key (for an 07 I believe) in which the transponder is inside the door opener case rather than being a separate component. Since the door opener case is larger than previous years, you may have to cut out the transponder bay in this new key to make it fit.
