| We got a "Check fuel cap" message and after checking the cap (it seems fine) and going through the reset procedure the message remains. Has anyone else experienced this? 2006 |

| IIRC, it takes 3 or 4 days for the light to reset on its own. |

| humanoid is right. the message should dissapear in less than a week. if not, you might need to further investigate. |

Yep - it happened to me on my very first fill up - I have been so used to 'one click' from my tahoe - but you need to go 3-4 clicks with the Pilot. |

Actually I've been driving around with it on now for over 1 month and a few fills. Any way to manually shut it off?
Thanks |

Could be as simple as you are not tightening your gas cap, or the cap is bad, to maybe you have been overfilling the gas and getting fluid into the vapor lines, to you have an air leak somewhere in the system.
How long is your average drive?
How many clicks do you tighten the cap?
How full do you fill your tank? When do you refill? |

So far it's been 2 or 3 months since I've actually filled it up, I drive very minimally now actually. I put in about 6 or 7 gallons every 10 days to 2 weeks.
My average drive is 10 miles one way, 20 round trip.
I've always owned hondas so I always turn the cap 3 to 4 clicks.
I tried the instructions outta the manual too that should have reset it I think but didn't do anything. |

Try the reset again, and if that dopes not work, I would have it looked at (or try a new cap) |

| I think the "reset" was just to fill the tank with gas and make sure the cap was tight, the light would reset itself in about a week. |

I don't know what the exact parameters are for the Pilot to reset all its readiness codes, but to give you some perspective, this is what it's like for my VW. The system needs to retest the Purge/EVAP system, and it needs to retest it through all its modes x number of times (where X is some number I don't know offhand).
Prerequisites:
-Erase DTC memory
-Coolant temperature must be between 80 deg C. and 110 deg. C.
-Intake air temperature must be between 10 deg. C. and 35 deg. C.
-Battery voltage must be a minimum of 12.5 V
-Fuel tank level 1/4 to 3/4 full.
Procedure
-Connect the scan tool
-switch the ignition on and start the vehicle
-Idle the vehicle for 2-3 minutes. This executes the O2S Heater, Misfire, Secondary AIR, Fuel Trim, and Purge system monitors
-Drive the vehicle at 45-55 mph for a continuous 7 minute period, avoid stopping. This executes the EVAP, O2S, Fuel Trim, and Misfire monitor.
-Accelerate the vehicle to an engine speed of 5000 RPM (with Automatic transmission use the tiptronic mode); lift off the throttle until the engine speed is around 1200 rpm. This executes the fuel cutoff
-Accelerate the vehicle smoothly to 60-65 mph, cruise constantly for 5 minutes, this executes the Catalust, O2S, Misfire, Fuel Trim, and Purge System monitors
-Decelerate and idle the vehicle again for 3 minutes. This executes the Misfire, Secondary AIR, Fuel Trim, and Purge System monitors
-Check the status of the readiness codes.
-If any engine monitor fails the drive cycle test, repeat the drive cycle test until all monitors have run through and passed.
When repeating the drive cycle operation for a failed EVAP monitor or thermostat-monitor, allow the engine to cool until the coolant temperature and the ambient aire temperature are between 10 deg. C and 35 deg. C, with a difference between them no greater than 4 deg C is observed, and repeat the drive cycle operation.

I can't remember the exact procedure at this time but it's in the manual, just look at the index. I remember it was quick to find.
Just an update, it took a few months but just the other day the check gas cap message turned off.
I got used to pressing the button to get rid of the message. It's nice i don't have to do that any longer.
Maybe the perfect solution is just to wait.
Thanks guys. |

| Mine was "popped" up the message yesterday with about 2500 miles on it. Owned it for bit over three months. I've always turned the cap 4/5 clicks when filled the gas. The reset in the manual says turn off engine, open and close the cap to 4/5 clicks. Did, and the message still there. Guess wait for few days see if it dissapeared. |

Go to Autozone and ask them to read the code (for free). if is the fuel cap its P0446.
OBD2 readers are pretty cheap these days. Its worth buying one for the convenience. |
