Rust? - Click HERE for Original Thread

Just purchased an 05 EXL. Got it home and on further inspection found quite a bit of rust under the dash and front seats. Is this a normal environmental issue or am I dealing with a possible flood damaged car? Carfax checks out. Car was originally from St. Louis. Anyone have an opinion? Trying to figure out if I need to try to get a new one. Dealer is supposed to be calling me back tomorrow (7/24) with what they'll do about it.

How bad is the rust? Any pics?

The underside of the passenger seat is almost covered. There are some areas around exposed parts of the wiring under the dash and the steering column has rust all around it. There is some - although not as extensive - under the driver's side seat. There doesn't appear to be any in the back, which is weird to me. I would expect both flood and environmental causes to affect the entire car. There is one bolt up near the windshield that is also rusted (would the car being kept out in snow do this?). The carpet is quite stained, but I passed it off to (and still think it looks like) spills and the like. But, on that note, could a big spill of something cause this as well?

I am taking it to a Honda dealer tomorrow for evaluation (purchased from a Ford dealer). Hopefully they will offer some ideas, as well.

It never would have occurred to me to inspect the hidden metal parts of the interior (e.g., underside of seats, dash, etc.). What drew your attention to it in the first place? It sounds like water damage. Even if the car wasn't flooded, maybe water intruded somehow (windows left open?) and it was left that way (not allowed to properly dry out) for a long time.
